1998 Ford Contour SVT Tour

I bought both a 97 Probe and 96 Mustang for $500 each, the Probe I sold (tho I liked it very much) and the Stang I drove for 3 yrs till the HG blew. I just bought a 99 Contour 5 speed with 87K for 1.4K and it's the perfect middle ground between the Probe and Mustang.

I got my svt for 800. It was a beat up mexi-mod car with a off-center hood scoop that they didn't even finish cutting the hood hole for. Frankly I think I got jipped. There was a butterfly valve in the engine that had a destroyed 0-ring that kept the check engine light on and a ton of vacuum tube leaks.

The Ford Contour is one of the most underrated sedans money can buy. It’s a great car to drive and is a lot better than the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry. The Ford Contour SVT is a fun car to drive. It just goes to show how great of a car the Ford Mondeo is. It’s a shame that this car got axed. I would have loved to see the Ford Contour go into it’s second generation and be based on the Ford Mondeo Mk III. The Ford Mondeo Mk III absolutely destroys the Accord and Camry and is a worthy competitor to the Volkswagen Passat.

I shall point you to the second gen Ford Fusion. The American MK5 Ford Mondeo that they once again killed off in 2020. Amazing car that with a refresh would've dominated the midsized market as it did in 2012 with it's release. I couldn't be more happy with my Fusion even being a Hybrid. Somehow it manages to mix driving pleasure into a Hybrid.

The contour is the US version of Mondeo from Europe, the differences are that the rear is different, the central console is different and some options too. The Mondeo it was and still it is a very reliable car over here ( probably because is made in Europe and not in US - no offence ). The 2.5 l engine has about 180 bhp and because the car is very stable on corners and because of the way you feel the car this piece of metal is pissing easily on most of the cars designed in US ( on it's class ). Extra options are: electric heated windscreen, radio control on the steering wheel, heated seats, heated windscreen washers, parking sensors by bosch, trunk opening from remote, lights at footwell when the doors are opened, interior handles lighted also, sunroof, sun visors with light on the mirrors, traction control, trip computer, cruise control, alarm system with motion sensors for interior, automatic climate control. Mine has only 80 % from those mentioned and is only 1.6 L with 90 bhp.

svt is 200 and 195 bhp... not 180... ST200 mondeo is the version for SVT contour...

they're nice looking cars but its too bad they don't last, at least the one I had and other ones I know about don't. plus I had the crappy 4banger too,it had no power, the biggest defect was the electrics the wiring would get crunchy and short out like mine did.

This one has the 24 valve Duratec V6, which is one of the slightly less crappy engines to come out of ford.

+josh conlan lol got mine for free. All i had to do was charge up the battery, replace the brake pads, get a new ignition and change the oil. It has about 145 thousand miles.

Learn something about cars before making videos. All SVT's came standard with the 5spd. It's blue interior not black, they only came with blue or tan. Sunroof = aftermarket

These cars sucked. I had one tons of problems. and recalls out the ass. check engine light always on. air bag light blinked. at least 10 recalls. glad they stopped making them. went to german will never go back to american made crap

I've had two of them... and still have them one silver one black.. and they are excelent cars.. maybe you and your mechanic don't know shit about cars.. they are delicate but very easy to mantain when you know them...and for your info this cars were named mondeo and still made in europe this specific model was called mondeo st200 then mondeo st220 then mondeo sport (Ford fusión sport) and the last mondeo ecoboost wich is the fusión titanium ECOBOOST:.. so they are still made ... america just made an st200 mondeo and called it SVT by changin a few things.. EXCELENT Cars.. if you investigate and get to know about them... and resolve the common issues.. SVT ENTHUSIAST love this cars.... I've had one since new in 2000 and another since 2008.. and I still have them with other bimmers and jettas... but they are good.. those who complain about cars is because their mecanic or them don't know shit about fixing problems
