1998 GMC Jimmy Blend Door Actuator How to Remove and Replace

blend door not closing or opening? then take a look at your blend door actuator..it could be frozen and not opening or closing in the right direction and this will give you a no heat condition or weak heat..or the opposite like air conditioning not cold or feels warm. The actuator is located behind the glove box door, and that vacuum pod in the front needs to be moved out of the way it clips on to that sharp plastic that I duct taped. most actuators are mounted the same way no matter what car or truck you have. Blend door actuator in my 94 s10 took a dump. Have to remove the dash to get to it. I also have a 02 parts truck that i can get an actuator from. Nice to see i do not have to pull the dash on my parts truck to get to it.

Godsend! I really was not looking forward to having to pull the dash like Alldata says you need to... My blend door has only been able to go 2/3 towards the hot side (so barely warm-ish) for over a year. Rain/cold sucks when you don't have a defroster!!

I ran a new oxygen hose from the manifold to the max AC under the dash door. And then cut the hose and added a t for the mode and cut some more of the same hose to the driver side and t it for the blend door heater and cold .works great I bypassed the hoses behind the control unit and the fender with these hoses. Until I get another hvac panel . The one I have leaks. The only one that matter is running the oxygen hose from manifold to the max AC door. The door under that dash that big door. That opens when max AC is on. That's really all that matters the rest are supposed to be closed with no oxygen being sent to them

I've had to manually prop open a blend door on My Caddy when the mechanical part broke, I either set it to heat or AC 2 times a year

Wow! 🎉You actually answer questions!! Awesome! My Brevada 1999 vibrates and causes my engine to drag when any of the temp stuff is on, often it won't even shut off. It's so loud my neighbor came out telling me I better not drive. It might be draining my battery idk.. But it only happens if the temp is running. I'm changing my blower motor fan thing tomorrow but I'm not sure that's the only thing, I mean it's so loud. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!! Thank you!! ❤

Good video ..would this be the cause of why i have heat at the foot wells and heat at the windshield but the dash vents are blowing cold air .

Not this actuator, this is the hot to cold one, your problem is vacuum related..check for a busted hose or vacuum leaks..there is also a vacuum manifold with about 8 hoses attached to it in the middle below the radio..and of course the vacuum line coming from the engine to the inside and a vacuum storage tank too.

Thank you. Mine makes noise, ac stops working intermittently, usually it comes back if I turn the thermostat to hot and back to cold. All the vacuum operated valves seem to work properly, but I've noticed the ac cuts out after hard braking (sometimes) so I assumed it was vacuum related. Blows ice cold when it wants to.

Ice cold means there is nothing wrong with the freon/refrigerant..check your vacuum tank..I think its under the fender well..might have a leaking hose or cracked plastic tank.

@@alyoungcuda that's exactly where it is, the check valve is not operating so when I hit the brakes in losing vacuum to the ac controls. I'll try to find a new one tomorrow.

Great video. I have a issue with my 03 sonoma. It seems to be stuck on heater no matter where i turn the knob (both vent knob and temp selector). It even blows hot air to the feet with the A/C knob in the off position. i replaced the actuator, but did not fix the issue. Any suggestions on what i can check next?

There are different actuators for different doors to open and close..check to see if you have a vacuum problem..

A/C knob or the mode selector dial? The mode door is operated using vacuum, and there is also a door that blocks airflow for when the mode selector is in the OFF position that is also operated using vacuum... like the video creator said, check for a vacuum issue. If you can get your hands on a vacuum diagram off of ALLDATA or Identifix or something, that should help you a lot. Location diagram too, so you know which line is which.

I'm sorry but I never got to replace that lever..if you look at the old one, does it show anything on how its mounted? Try and do what I do..I stick my cell phone in there and video tape the area or take some photos of it to get a better look

@@alyoungcuda yes, looking at the replacement, there is a plastic tab that faces away from me. My problem is being able to pry it outward order for it to slide up and off. Such a tight space with very little wiggle room. I appreciate your response.

Could this be the fix for my 98 s-10? I have no heat blowing out vents when knob is turned on red side. Also, when i turn on floor only mode, air just comes out of vents and defroster.

Blend door is basic for heat and ac to blend the temperature from hot to cold..your issue is more of a vacuum actuator not pulling and closing the doors to direct the air to the top, middle or bottom..check for vacuum, there should be a vacuum plastic tank near the drivers fender somewhere, it might be leaking or the vacuum actuator is not pulling the door.

I have a 99 jimmy ..it had great heat until a shop replaced my leaking heater core and now in the winter i get heat out the footwells and heat up at the defroster vent at the windshield but cold air blowing through my 4 dash vents

They must of either not connected the vacuum lines or they connected to the wrong vacuum pods but clearly its that since they removed the parts of the heater box to get to the heater core for replacement.

Thats not good..the wires have to be in that general area..who cut them off?..you are going to need that connector plug

The vent postion is under the radio..its a rectangular box with vacuum lines and an electrical plug connector..I had that video..I think I deleted it..I will see if its somewhere in the cloud..lol Ps, that part is discontinued..found it on amazon

Yes, the blend door closes the heater core side during ac time and then closes to the side of the evaporator when its heat time...and there is the middle part when you want warm..its like opening and closing a window to allow more heat or AC..

The blend door would need to be broken , stuck or melted or off its hinge to be blamed

@@KevinLohse-v1m the whole unit has to come out to look at the blend door..you can force open or closed the door by hand and either tie it or jam something into it so the door stays open or closed and see if it improves your heat or AC..it could be binding somewhere or the actuator is weak to move the arm.

That stud sticking up is a nut that held the vacuum pod bracket
