The R1 is off the bench, freshly MOT'd and road legal, the only thing to do before a road test is set the suspension. Dave and a friend show you how to measure and set the sags, preload and damping settings. Then it's off for a road test to see what life was like in the 90's

That road past wickenby is great but I'm a sucker for the bit between Wragby and Louth. It never gets talked about because all the roads round there are so good.

You can't beat a good assistant, well you could but he probably won't want to be your assistant any more. Loving this set of videos, really looking forward to seeing the last few pieces of the puzzle slotted into place.

Fantanstic job Davey. I love the look of the original R1 but my only experience is a tamiya kit i built in this scheme (even the red sprocket) Must get the opportunity to swing a leg over one!

Excellent result Dave, a truly great restoration project. When you rebuilt the brake calipers, did you notice any piston sticking? Firstly without fluid then with? I’m sure you’ll work it out because you’re brilliant!✅💯🚀

I'm confident the pistons all moved nicely and it feels more of a disc issue... when a set arrives in the post I'll be able to find out for sure

it is a used moped , why are the helping hands massure only one suspension ...? but you gave both two spin's - sure you and your helping hands have had much much more experience sometimes the oil or gas bubble inside the pipes have different resistance if the medium is in flow 🤔

Those lovely Ohlins forks are what the gen 1 version always needed. They all lacked enough rebound damping. Was it an accident that the moped reg plate says "sag"? 🤔
@obsession_engineering

That's no moped, it's a Russian sidecar outfit (and it was accidental)

Any KZbin tips for bike suspension setup? I found this video very informative....does it apply to all bikes in respect to the values?
@obsession_engineering
@obsession_engineering 3 жыл бұрын
Most sports bikes want to be in the 30-40 mm sag area. Basically you're looking for 1/4 to 1/3 of the total travel and most sports bikes have around 120mm travel so it's a good starting point

@@obsession_engineering Thanks, I don't have much to play with on my wife's NC700D but as I'm doing a fork service and dropping the front about 10mm I thought it's a good time to see how the factory setup is. Bike is a bit sluggish.

Enjoyed this setup exercise Dave. How did you arrive at the desired sag figures? And could the figures you quote be used on a standard 5JJ for road use?
@obsession_engineering
@obsession_engineering 3 жыл бұрын
Mostly experience to find the desired sag settings, on track I aim for 30mm, on the road a bit more sag usually gives a better ride, in the 35-40mm range should work well on most sporty road bikes
