I met Guy at Elvington a couple of years ago . He was getting alot of attention from spectators and competitors etc while he was trying to sort out his very fast Suzuki project . I thought i would leave him in peace to get on with fettling the beast . At the end of the i was walking through the paddock and he walked past and asked me how i was doing which i thought was very good and we discussed all things about mountain bikes and of course motorbikes . My overall impression is a absolutely great chap who made my day . I wish him all the best with his future projects and keep up the good work .

@@nomdeploom5707 Not entirely the reason the Dutch speak English, I'm sorry to say. This goes back centuries, through alliances with the British, but mainly because of trade. Nobody except the Dutch and Belgians speak Dutch in Europe, the former colonies also often have Dutch as a language. If you don't speak someone's language, you're not going to make a deal. If you do, and speak it well, you're going to get a good deal. English as a second language became the norm after WW2 when Dutch tv started airing a lot of American and British shows, with subtitles instead of dubbing like most other European countries. Combined with English classes that can start as early as 8 years old, but commonly first grade high school (10/11 years old). Depending on the level of high school you're in, you either choose French, German or neither of them, either French or German and on the highest level you need to do both. Including your final exams. Some schools also offer Spanish. The Dutch are surrounded by other languages and to make the most money, it was easiest to just learn them all. I'm not saying we don't appreciate the British, Canadians and Americans for what they did and the liberation, but it is not expressed through speaking the language. Apeldoorn has hosted a parade every 5 years for the Canadian veterans that liberated the city. The pandemic was the first time it was cancelled, since 1945.

Epic interview with Guy. He has no filter and speaks his mind on topics whether it be motorsports to restorations of things mechanical . He is awesome on two wheels and has nothing to prove but still pushes the edge the envelope. He is a true National treasure but also a man of great humility. The quote "Better things to die for" was awesome. Cheers from a MCN fan from the US!

It's all the drugs he's taken during his lifetime. To be honest I've been a big fan of guy martin myself for over 10 years or ever since he got a spotlight on F1 pitstop video that showed his mechanic skills, motorcycle skill and even some quick hard working lad all around. I wasn't aware he got in a bike accident not until 2 to 3 years after the video of F1 came out and I was delusional that guy was this supernatural kind of captain america dude that could and has done almost anything. Although he has stayed busy for many years and as a mechanic myself I have to agree that being a formula 1 mechanic takes real balls and most guys if not all of the teams are next level people. But to my point once I realized that guy martin was in a bike wreck I started researching how most if not everybody involved in accidents specially bike accidents tended to not be the same anymore. Most of the bikers I've met whom I have close friendship have told me that none of these so called tv personas that act and look all brave and almost supernatural like are really like that in real life. I had my doubts until I pieced everything together and came to the conclusion that most definitely guy martin had to be on some drugs in order to alleviate the pain from the wreck he once was in. And to my surprise dude's been on them drugs ever since then. Oh and I also wrote this while frogged so. 😂

As an engineer, bike builder / rider "faffing about" is a way of life LOL. Guy takes it to the next level. Best race Ive ever seen was Guy and Michele at the Southern 100 dicing for 1st, out of two bikes and 4 wheels there were never more than 2 on the deck at any one time. Done the End 2 End a few times with Guy in the pack, obviously he just fu*ks off! The bloke is a wizard yet real humility, rare to find today. Never watch TV unless Guy is on, settle down with a brew, learn something and be entertained with zero media BS...genius.

I didn't renew my MotoGP pass this year because the rules have turned it into NASBIKE and passing often requires the riders to take very high risks. I'd much rather watch the locals pull throttle cables at Chicken Licks Raceway.
@lonpfrb
@lonpfrb 3 ай бұрын
I understand that all racing follows the sponsor money that it requires to work, but like social media there is an echo chamber effect when the promoters don't pay attention to diversity of racers and sponsors. MotoGP has become dominated by Spanish riders, sponsors and promoters. A token American or South African rider isn't going to make it a global competition, so they need to do much better, starting with every nation that has bought the TV rights. Obviously nobody will pay if they have no riders of their nation in any of three classes.. WSBK has a much better collection of racers, though Dorna thinks it can be a dumping ground for old MGP riders, allowing them to bring M2 riders up to MGP. That ignores the legitimate need to bring WSSP riders to WSBK, and national SBK champions, too. This was inevitable when Dorna got WSBK, but they need to be careful not to make WSBK as irrelevant as MGP...

I started as a bike mechanic, joined the navy, became an electrician, delivered my daughters, went to uni and got three degrees, got helicopter and plane licenses, got marine skippers tickets, hand built two race cars and won a seasons third place with no crew or sponsors, been rescue volunteer of the year twice, travelled the world as an automation engineer, built the boat I live in and finally seem at peace with the world but wanting to learn to play music. I want to hand my ticket in at the end with no desires left to fulfil. Getting to a stage of near contentment is rather blissful and all the stuff I have done is just stuff I have done, it’s what I do that matters. I will raise the next cup of tea to you chap!

@@pitchforkpeasant6219 Oh, we're all still pissed about that penalty. Like Wilson said, 5 seconds maybe. Not thirty. Thirty was ridiculous. Some self-important fatso with his stopwatch gets to render 300km of life-risking racing pointless over a tenth of a mile an hour on pit exit? Pathetic.
