If u don't have the special tool for filter. Use a regular oil filter wrench with a pair of vice grips to clamp down the corner of the oil filter wrench. Works well

I recommend getting the pool of old oil out of the filter bowl when the filter is removed. I use the pump top from a soap dispenser with a length of pipe fitted to the pick up tube. I don't agree with dousing the new filter with oil, especially pouring in the centre because the defeats the purpose of filtration. In the UK, Mann filters are stocked by VW dealers. That is a great idea. There is always a pool of old oil down there when i change the oil in our ALH Golf 😟

Hello my friend. I got my ALH (skoda octavia 2002) 10000 km ago and the old owner put 15w40, I put 10w40 and I noticed 8000 km after light smoke coming out of oil dipstick and filling hole. I think 10w40 is too light for the car that's why it smokes! I noticed also some oil on the crankcase breather ends and EGR valve! Engine is runnig very good no problems at all! Please support and advice. what is your oil change interval?

According to VW it takes a VW505.00 compliant 0w40 or 5w40 rated oil but a lot of people agree that Rotella T6 or Mobil 1 TDT is fine

+James Providenti some people do perfer to use Rotela T6 5w40 or Mobile 1 Diesel Truck 5w40. I find that I like the results I get with 15w40 in my 300k mile TDI. I find that most TDIs I buy the previous owners have not been using synthetic oil and I do not switch them over. If it has been run on Synthetic I continue to run that too. But like I said, feel free to use what suits your situation.

Please wear gloves, not wearing gloves is pre-2010. I don´t watch videos with people staining their hands in an ancient way, the rest of the work will be filthy and dirty too.

+52teodoro I work in gloves occasionally but really don't like it. They get caught on things quite often and rip so I don't bother with them most of the time.
