1999-2004 Mustang GT Fuel Pump Replacement

In this video we show you how to replace the fuel pump and fuel filter in a 99-04 Mustang. This particular model is a Walbro - TU229HP-2 and is safe for upwards of 600HP! It is a fairly easy and straight forward installation, hope you enjoy!

Wow !!! Great video you guys did a great job showing each step to take down the tank and how to remove the damage pump and how to install the one. Only one thing that was missing is the need to emphasize on taken precautions of not creating any spark that can cause fire or both explosions and fire. But I have say I learned so much. Did same on my 96gt on my own with trolley jack. That filler tube was never ending. 🤣 Was like it's having me on here lol

Good vid. I just did the same job with no jack or Stands😂. Pump went bad and I left all my tools in fl. For anyone wondering it is possible to do with no jack only if you’re on stock suspension

Whatever height the ramps are idk exactly probably around 1' tall. It's enough room but ideally you wanna get as high as possible safely

Listen people before you change fuel pump run a diag !! Got code P1260 theft detected vehicle immobilized ...left key on 10 minutes to reset ...started right up ! Just an fyi 👍🏽 if u see your theft light flashing faster then normal it got set off ..i was jumping car a lot and that's most likely how it got triggered ....was about to get pump 🤬😂😂

Always diag the problem before spending money on a replacement part! No question about that. This was an upgrade not because the previous one failed or anything. Just needed more fuel flow for the tune etc

How important would you say a good fuel pump replacement is? I bought one off amazon and I’m contemplating putting it in since I don’t know if it will go bad once I upgrade the power, compared to a reputable brand like walbro It seems to be good quality however im sure there are plenty of better quality ones that exist

Honestly fueling is extremely important especially when looking for more power! I can’t speak on the one you got because I’m not sure but if I were you I’d suggest putting a quality one in just so you don’t have to go back in there if this one were to fail. But who knows this one you bought could be great.

I have a question, I bought an eBay fuel pump but the sock/strainer doesn’t come out the side like the original one it’s on the inside of the assembly but still connected to the pump on the inside. Do you think it’ll be an issue?

If that doesn't work I believe there is a fuse for the fuel pump or system you can pull and it'll essentially do the same thing. Hope this helps

I take it that you didn't test the fuel pump before remounting the tank? That would suck to go through all that effort only to find that the pump is bad.

Not that much work tbh and no we didn’t test it, it was a brand new piece. Plus we didn’t have anything there to test it

Could be that yes (sending unit) because it’s not reading the level correctly , and it could be a faulty gauge cluster. Those would be the most common 2 to look at but it can be some other stuff too

@@RugratJay197 it could be, I’d start there but I can’t remember if the fuel gauge works on electricity or it’s mechanical. If mechanical I don’t think it’ll be a fuse. But honestly check the fuses, go for the basics. Anyways to hook up a scanner? I can’t really help lead you in the right direction without being there to diagnose it for myself but between all the stuff I said you should be able to kinda narrow down the problem

I would have just replaced the pump and keep it original. The aftermarket ones can’t do that.

@@RatchetWrenches well with the original unit/assembly you can just replace the pump ( the motor inside the assembly) and with the aftermarket ones, you can’t do that, you have replace the whole unit/assembly. ChrisFix has video on it.

Bad choice of words I guess I meant to say where the stock pump was struggling higher in the RPMs once the new pump is installed it won't have the same issues and I can rev it out to around 6000rpm without break ups
