That is great advice not messing with the wiper motor and mechanics. The bolts will break. It is easier to remove tensioner and 3 bolt bracket. Ther are no short cuts, only done the right way there will no headachs. Very good and simple video. Thanks for helping people in the right direction.

@@shrumstein Jajaja your comment made me laugh because I went through the same procedure and I had to mess around a bit with the wiper mechanism in order to remove the alternador. Took the alternator out of my 03 Chevy Venture today and since I didn’t have a motor strap, I used small connector joint with a 15mm socket and ratchet for the 2 back bolts, but it has to be on there just right so when you turn it the joint doesnt twist or bend, causing the socket to slip off. Even with smaller hands it was tricky with limited space. I unhooked my battery terminals first so I didn’t light my ass up lol, then unhooked the fuse box, pulled the batter out, removed the serpentine belt, then the washer jug, and pulled that black bar over just a tad after unscrewing the left bolt. Slipped the alternator right out that side. Not sure why Chevy thought it was a great idea to bury the alternator back near the firewall and damn near impossible to get those 2 bolts loose. I ran out of daylight but I’ll be putting the new one back in tomorrow. Hoping it goes in much easier than coming out lol. Thanks for the video.

Took the wiper reservoir out and once I took the bracket off the alternator slid it out through there. No engine rolling or wiper removal required. I did loosen the left side wiper controller (yellow sticker in the video) and move it out of the way (2 bolts). Was worried the alternator was after market and smaller than you dealt with, but the replacement went in the same way.

Love the video, as a 20 year old that has no idea what I am doing, this helped a lot. I have a question though, I don't have a strap to move the motor, but I did manage to take off the tensioner as well as the idler, but I still cannot manage to take off the thing where the tensioner/idler/alternator stand, the thing with the little hook thing sticking out. Is there some bolts on the back side that are hard to reach? I appreciate it if anyone could help out

@@frankieherrera3541 I just bought a new 78 battery for my '02 Silo at Walmart The dimensions are about 7"w x 10" l x 7"h. It helps to have someone or a bungee cord to hold the fuse box to the side. Be careful of the radiator cap. If the battery has a carry strap it helps a lot. I removed the strut bar and battery box so many times to swap batteries, I could do it in my sleep searching for the 1.6 amp parasitic draw. I think it may be the alternator. I hope it's not the PCM since the A/C and #1 fan stopped working. UPDATE: I still think I have problems with the PCM for other problems but it wasn't the PCM that is killing a fully charged battery overnight. I checked the charge rate and it is 15vdc +. Two days ago I completely disconnected the wiring to the alt. and charged the battery. It still has a full charge of 12.6 volts. Tomorrow I'll tackle the removal chore and get a new alternator.

Does it hurt the engine or anything that attaches to it to use the ratchet strap to rock engine forward. I live in my van and can't afforf to pay someone to fix. Repaced the alternator on my 90 toyota corrola myltiple times but the venture seems a lot more intensive and harder to get to than my toyota. Why do vans like this have to have suvh a small engine compartment. Its ridiculously annoying. Hell just to remove the battery you have to take out fuse box. Sorry rant over. Just don't want to damage anything.

LS2 Chevy Astro so ratchet it forward until theres just enough clearance tto get the alternator out? When is too much? I'd do it the windshield wiper way but already have issues with my windshield wipers that I just fixed and dont want to mess it up more.
@anthonyerbes59106 жыл бұрын
About to buy the alternator right now and start working on it. Oh and just to clarify you only used the ratchet strap to support the motor? No jack or jack stands were used underneath? Or is it not really an issue of the engine dropping and the strap is solely to gain the clearance needed?

Cannot see at 4:26 minutes into video, what bolts he is unscrewing, It would have helped ihe moved the camera as close as possibe so w can see what he was doing, understanding there may not be enough room for the camera to get in there. Not necessary to pull back the top of the motor to get to the alternator, as there are two other ways to do it, but I guess it is okay. No voice instruction as he was going along to explain what bolts we could not see that he was removing. Oh well.....
