this was also the first time ever that a Saturday afternoon game held in Melbourne apart from the Grand Final was telecast live in Melbourne.

How often were Friday and Saturday Night games shown live into Melbourne then
@odeliagardens8 жыл бұрын
in the 1990s Friday night games were shown on a one hour delay. Saturday night games were live if the match was held outside Victoria.

Thanks, John. Too young to have been to an AFL game at VP, sadly (went to a number of games at the G while we still had tenancy at VP, but I guess the interstate match-ups weren't attractive to my family). Although I did have the pleasure of participating in multiple junior member clinics on the ground so I've kicked plenty of snags on the hallowed turf, even got a look at the famous Darren Millane Boxing Ring when the venue was still being used as the club's training base. We definitely grew out of it as a club but part of me yearns to see even a pre-season AFL game there. I'd pay hundreds.

Very sad day. Always disappoints me that we completely abandoned Victoria Park, even as a training facility. Makes me envious seeing the likes of Carlton, Richmond, North Melbourne, Western Bulldogs and St Kilda all re-develop and retain their traditional grounds as their training bases, but we gave up on ours too easily.

The-OG-Blobfish I’m 30, I got to experience it as a child, it was special. Nothing quite like having a ground you can call your own. walking to the ground was special, watching people stream in, filling up the grand stands, sitting on old wooden seats, or standing up on the grassed section behind the goals. So close to the ground you could smell the grass/dirt, and then Singing the club anthem at the start of the game, cheering the players on. Time were more simple then, wasn’t all about money. You went week in week out because you loved the jumper. Watch daicos and tony Shaw, Rocca kick a big goal, and Now you pay $30 and sit on the top deck of the G, where you feel so disconnected. Oh well, go pies.

I wish we'd revert back to the pre-2001 jumper. Such a great looking jumper, particularly in conjunction with the black shorts. Never been a fan of the "white stripes on black" design, which has been our home jumper since 2001.
