1999 Ford Contour/Mondeo Spark Plug removal

This videos shows removal of spark plugs on a 1999 Ford Contour (Mondeo-Europe) with a V6 2.5 Duratec engine.

Thanks for the upload. Helped me out a great deal in actually finding the spark plugs on this particular engine, since they are originally hidden pretty well. I did forget to pick up the spark plug socket for removing the spark plugs, but I have already replaced all of my spark plug wires. I just wanted to add that the bolts underneath the front engine cover has screws that require a 10 mm socket, just in case anyone else needs this video. I didn't realize they weren't 7mm, and had to go back to pick up more sockets.

You only have to remove the four bolts on the coil to move it out of the way. You will need a universal joint to remove the spark plug. I hope this helps.

Thanks for the great video!!! Model name of plug I used is Autolite xp104 and guy said they're OEM. Also, I didn't use the U joint but it was a pain in the ass either way. I just used 3 extensions and 2 spark plug sockets. 1 socket had rubber for removal and the other didn't for installation. On the coil, you can unplug or just turn them back and forth to get them out of your way. Took me 2 hours but I could do it in 20 minutes now haha Thanks Again man you saved me $$$

Bill Smith found that out myself lol. Took me forever to get the third screw on the coil pack off. It's at the most awkward angle, and my fat stubby hands couldn't fit into that small space. I must've spent a good 30 minutes just trying to undo that screw. Course, I wasn't using an extension either :P

Don't drop the plugs into the holes! Find a piece of hose about 10~12" that fits gently over the porcelain (white) part of the plug. Use the hose to lower them into the hole and get the threads started then pull the hose off. THEN you can use your spark plug socket with the insert removed. Sometimes it is also helpful to tape your socket/swivel/extension together to keep them from popping off. You can tape right over the swivel which can also help keep it from flopping around as you try to position it.

Same engine in my cougar, didn't need a universal joint, just used a 10 inch extension for back plugs and no problems

Spark plug socket, 3 inxtension, u joint & a 10 inch long xtension is what i use. I guess u could use a breaker bar on the u joint. The rear O2 sensor is the same. 10 in x tention, u joint & wratchet. U will bust your knuckles. But that v6 & 5 speed is worth it!

Well it is a good thing I found this video because I was sure that intake had to be removed. It didn't look like enough clearance between the runner and the plugs to get the wires out, let alone get a socket straight enough. Alldata didn't say shit about removing the plugs, just lists the gap specs and torque. Personally I am using the Denso Iridium TT plugs in my Cougar so I don't have to change them for a long time. Just a tip for anyone doing work on their own vehicles, buy your parts from the advanceautoparts web site, and google for a discount code. They have a bunch. Just order what you need, choose your local store to pick it up at, and they will have it all waiting for you I save so much money doing it that way and I don't have to deal with the inept person at the counter that can't even work their own computer system.

A mechanic tells me you have to remove the intake manifold to remove spark plugs in the back of the engine. Is this true,???? From the video it looks like you just have to remove the coil pak. I need to know

If you mean the metal box, it is called IMRC module. It switches between long and short air intake branch in around 3200rpm. You should feel it like a little kick in a butt. But in lot of cases, it does not work. It suffer from heat coming out of engine. This is why some people place it under the battery housing.

muhammed orak I went to an O'Reiley's Autoparts store for the same engine, duratec 2.5 L V6 24 valve, and they gave me a set of 6 autolite spark plugs. Although mine is a 2000 ford contour, and not a 99. But there isn't really a difference. The spark plug gap is 0.54 in for that specific model.
