I usually take a spray bottle fill it with fluid then take a piece of hose and connect it to the head of the spray nozzle, and like magic pump away even under the car.

Does it matter what fluid you use? I have been unable to find what fluid to use online or at stores. Do you think Motorcraft Full Synthetic Manual Transmission fluid would work? Also I have the 4 cylinder.

Yes, it does matter what fluid you use. Manufacturers sometimes change the requirement in the middle of a production run. Check your owners manual, the proper fluid should be listed there. My Contour requires automatic transmission fluid for the manual transmission in mid 1998.

@@davidgpo hey I appreciate the help for even an 8 year old video. My car didn’t come with an owners manual and I never thought of searching it online and it does show it takes the ATF. Thanks again!

+nikeflight17 Every 2 years, 24,000 miles. I've been told that too frequent and it could be relaxed to 48,000 miles, which I may do now that the car is advancing to old age.

Ford actually specifies that you use a friction modifier in addition to the ATF fluid.

Hi I have a question I recently changed my clutch on my 2000 Ford contour svt for some reason when I put it in second gear it's still grinds is that due to the transmission or do I have to do an alignment on my shifter how do you do an alignment on the shifter could you please help?

My guess is that it could either be a bad synchronizer in the transmission, warped clutch or the clutch may not be fully disengaging. Check your clutch hydraulic lines for leaks and make sure it's properly bled before tearing into the transmission.

Lyndon Bishop The Valvoline ATF is rated for Ford and GM vehicles.

Yes, the manual transmission is pretty much the same for the 2.5L six cylinder for all the model years.
