Great video, fixed door handle in no time at all. Thanks very much. Three comments: 1. part number is 72136-SM4-003 2. the handle should not/need not be removed from the panel. If it comes off easily, like in the video, someone had previously broken the plastic retainers because the two screws that hold the handle to the panel that can only be reached "after" the panel is removed; 3. I found it easier to leave the bottom of the panel unfastened to reach inside to attach the rod to the door handle. Just my preference. Thanks again

Thank you so much for this video. As a 72-year-old woman I had no trouble following your instructions and saved myself a bundle of money..and only 2 screws left at the end..I'll live with that,

Thank you. Dealer wanted $360 to do this-$180 to remove the panel to diagnose it and another $180 to actually fix it. I knew already that this was the problem by the symptoms, and I already had the $1.59 part, so I figured I'd find a video. Thanks for making this. Saved a single mom a ton of money.

Hi Rob. I realize this post is old but it remains EXTREMELY helpful. I'm a 65-year old woman who was able to replace the door handle assembly in under 10 minutes.The rod was easier to get to then expected. Also, I had to take the lock mechanism off the old assembly and attach it to the new assembly so I could hook it back up to the harness. The door handle part was less than $15 so this was not only an easy fix, but a cheap fix as well. THANK YOU!

Hello Rob! I just finished replacing that inner rod holder. Without your step by step instructions, I wouldn't have been able to do it in just under 20 minutes. I own a 98 Honda CR-V. I wouldn't RECOMMEND what I did. I actually lifted the bottom panel just enough(after taking off all the screws) to reach in and put the plastic holder without taking the whole panel off----lucky I didn't break the panel. But my arms did get scraped when I reached in to fix it. So your way is the best way to not risk breaking the door panel. I wish you GOOD FORTUNE AND LUCK!! Karma will give you good luck ten folds back for your HELPFUL video. You are right -- the auto repair shop would have charged hundreds of dollars.

Last time I had to took apart the door panel a few years ago, after somebody tried to break into the car. But my gf ruined the inner handle recently, so I had to fix it. I totally forgot the push trick for removing the inner handle, this video saved me a lots of time and also saved the door from further damages. By the way, I repaired the jumped out door handle rod in 5 minutes, thank you for sharing.

Spectacular video!!I had the cracked handle of doom which sucks in the winter where I live, to be constantly rolling down the window. Got the part through my work, and this video made the install dare i say...pleasant! Originally thought I'd need to remove the entire panel but after watching you disconnect the handle, I surmized that it did not need to be and quickly jumping ahead to the re-installation procedure provided me all the info I needed to make this a 5 minute fix. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! Also props to the camera woman!!

Great video! I just did this with my 2001 CRV and tips I find are 2. First snap off the triangular plastic cover above right side of door panel that covers access to mirror mount hardware. This way the door panel comes off and on much easier. Second the arm rest does not come off on the 2001, just remove the three screws. My clip turned out to be ok, just needed to lube up the latch area to make the interior door handle to once again open the door.

Very handy tutorial. But before removing the whole door panel, make sure the problem isn't a broken interior door lever. Mine was cracked at the joint so it couldn't pull the rod all the way. You don't have to remover the whole panel to replace the handle, just the old handle itself, which is described at about 5:25 in the video. I got an aftermarket replacement handle assembly on eBay for about $10 which fit ok but needed to use the old nylon rod clip, and had to slightly force in the handle housing to seat it.

Just used your video to replace my broken rod holder and inside driver handle assembly. The chrome on the handle was coming off and its sharp edge cut my finger. My 2001 CRV has 3 speaker screws and after removing the door handle screws the handle stayed attached to the door panel when I removed the door panel. The bottom of the door was held in by two round fittings that released when when I pulled straight out on the door panel at the bottom. For anyone else doing this, pay attention to how the door panel top edge fits under the triangular trim piece at the front of the door. It's nice to have a door that opens from the inside again and not have duct tape wrapped around the "Killer Chrome" on the handle. John near Adamstown, PA.

I have a 1998 Honda CRV; I think the 1999 and 1998 are pretty much the same. The drivers side door I can open from the outside so i need to roll down the window to get out. The passenger side wont work outside or inside; it's been pooched for a while. Thanks for the vid, it will make things so much easier. I'm going to fix both my door handles this weekend.

Thanks a lot! This worked great on the 2000 CR-V; only a couple minor things (3 screws by the speaker instead of 2, the large handle is held to the panel by interior screws) were different.

My 2001 Drivers side door will not open from the inside, I had the panel off and yes my clip is broken....that being said, I pulled on the rod every which way I could and still couldn't make the door open. Could it be something in addition to the clip?
@berledale909010 жыл бұрын
Hi - my problem is the "chrome" handle just snapped off. The stub that was left does not open the driver side front door. Do you think I can just replace the handle assembly or does it sound like the inside black plastic clip is broken? Thanks for your help.
@sjstreetbikes10 жыл бұрын
I would just get the handle assembly and the plastic clip. You may not be able to get enough leverage to open with the stub. If you replace the handle assembly and it still does not open pull the panel and replace the clip. If you end up not using the clip you will only be out a few bucks.
@berledale909010 жыл бұрын
Rob Surace Thank you! The "stub" was opening the door fine today but, of course, it has sharp edges so I will definitely replace the handle assembly. I think I can possibly tackle that myself. Is there a good source for both parts?

Really really hoping that’s what’s wrong with my door and nothing more. It would make sense though because the latch was sticking earlier so us pulling harder on the handle probably did it in. I think that plastic piece is the dumbest idea ever. Would it have been that much harder to make it metal?
