Thanks to you, I just finished replacing the lock actuator on my 01 crv. ****One TIP**** I was able to remove the actuator from the latch without removing the door handle and the rod that is attached to the lever, I've done that by unscrewing the only screw on the actuator through the small hole (maybe half-inch in diameter) in the door itself. And through the same hole, I screwed the new actuator in place. This saved me a lot of work.

Thanks for the video I followed the advice in the comments and was able to change it out on the driver side door without completely removing it. I just removed the 3 screws holding the actuator, the 10mm bolt below it and the c clip connecting the rod to the door handle. The small screw on the actuator was longer than I expected and was a little difficult to remove but I got it done in about half an hr. 👍

Thanks for the video, just did this on mine. Tips: If the circular clip is rusty, you can take off EVERYTHING (including the handle) together if you take the time to slide the handle into the handle hole and pull it all down into the door cavity. You should be able to pull it all out through the biggest hole on the inside. If your actuator phillips screw pattern was rusty like mine, the screws on the OLD actuator housing can be used as a new screw.

I figured out a way to replace actuator without taking whole assembly out of the car. It involved taking the screw off that holds the bottom window rail, and lowering/removing the rail but leaving the window channel in place. The window channel is flexible enough to swing up and out of the way, and now you have enough room to pull the assembly to front of car, just enough to see and remove the single screw holding the actuator in place. Sorry I didn't do a video. Thanks for your video that gives us all a great head start, and confidence to tackle this on our own! Stay Safe!

I just did this, the door lock does not have to be removed. To remove the bars by the door lock, the yellow plastic tab can be unlocked and the spinning tab can be pried loose by a flat screwdriver easily.

Great video. Just a couple things. At 5:34, rather then removing the c-clip just flip the yellow plastic holder around and then pull out the rod. Also, at 6:52 if you push the door handle back through the door then you can spin it around to get it off the rod. Pulling it off will just break the plastic clip otherwise.

Yo man!Thank you. Took it apart and put it back together and felt really accomplished. Only hickup was when I put the actuator in, it wouldn't lock with the key fab. We gave up and decided we would take it apart again if we had to. But low and behold, once we got it all put back together, it worked to unlock and lock the door and it's awesome. Thanks for the great video! You just saved me $400.

I will check the unit and I will replace it . Thank to Garage Built Hondas . My car becomes younger day by day.

Excellent video. One tip; you don't have to release the blue clip that retains the interior door rod. It will come out attached and, more importantly, will go back in attached. Extremely difficult to get back into its blue clip and secured once the latch assembly is back in place.

Done mine no joke 15 mins. So followed the steps but couldn't be asked with taking the whole thing out and doing it out the car. So took door panel off. Undo the 3 screws holding the actuator assembly and the bolt. The c clip you undone from the back of the outside handle I took off and that allowed the whole unit to drop. Undone the screw slid out and put new one in while it was still in the door it allows enough room to get a screw driver in and take it out. Then push it back into place done.

I had to learn how everything worked and to show each mechanism. A lot of people don't have the mechanical experience so I wanted this to describe every single part that they may need to remove to get it swapped out. I'll try your method on my driver door as that actuator is getting really *weak.*
@rb1093
@rb1093 5 жыл бұрын
@@GarageBuiltHondas yes without your step by step I wouldn't of been able to work it out. Even with the 3 screws and the bolt you can move it down. But buy undoing the I'm guess the barrel c clip and moving that it then drops completely which is so easy

I couldn't find a brand new one for mine I'm in the UK. Everyone I messaged on eBay said it wasn't the right one for my car. Think it's because we drive on the other side so passenger side for me is your driver's side. Might get a new one and just put driver's side in and see if that works. But the unit I got even though it's 2nd hand has done 160k and is fine my car was is on 110k and it was making the sound so fingers crossed this unit will stay fine

I've seen people say that he didn't have to remove the C-clip, but I think he did it to prove that it could somehow will it to stay on the tip of the screwdriver. That would have shot off into the door never to be seen again if it were me doing this job. Even if somehow I had managed to end with it balanced on the screwdriver, now way that makes it all the way out the door; again, it would have fallen through to the alternate dimension where the extra hardware in IKEA boxes comes from.

I bought mine 3 years ago and have been very happy with it even with the constant sway bar link replacements. Mine is a 5 speed, you can take it up to 4000 RPM's when a little more push is needed. You may have wanted to do the power window and reg while you were in there.

@joejunky8427
@joejunky8427 6 жыл бұрын
They do. I ended up getting the heavy duty sway bar links on the last time so we'll see how long they last. I don't drive it that much. Common flaw with this car along with the exhaust valves, keep them adjusted every 30, 000 miles. Like the Integra, most of the weight of this car is on the front tires so constant maintenance in that area is needed. Otherwise very reliable.

I have a 2000 crv, driver side door lock will not respond to key opening it's gives no resistance when inserting the key and trying to turn it just turns, alarm unlock doesn't work either and the rest of the doors don't unlock unless the driver does. Seems the driver lock is the master but I can pull the lock up manually but it will not unlock the rest of the doors. I currently have to open the passenger side with the key which works and reach over and pull up the driver lock. Do you think it's the actuator or something else? Oh and on some super rare occasions when i try to open the door with the key it will work but it's pretty resistant to turn.

Can you please help me? How do the lock button knobs attach inside the door on Gen 1 CR-V's? (The round knobs on the top of the doors that go in/out and up/down.). I broke the driver side one off and want to buy a new one but the only ones I see are on ebay. Ebay has 1 listing for an OEM tan one that is very used, but I want black new ones. Rockauto has nothing surprisingly. Do they screw in? If so what threading? Ebay has a bunch of carbon fiber ones that look cool and appear to be somewhat stronger, so I am wondering if those will work. They say they're universal, but does not list what cars it will work on. Not quite sure if they'll work. I would greatly appreciate any help you can provide me. If you could give a possible recomendation where to buy new ones would be awesome. Is there any electronics in the locking mechanism that is above the actuator? My button just isn't working at all. I tried replacing the switch and verified connections in the door, all fuses are good. It seems like the switch is just not getting power to the actuator
@GarageBuiltHondas
@GarageBuiltHondas 4 жыл бұрын
You may want to double check the wires feeding into the door. It's a common issue on these 1st gens with the wires degrading.

On my 99 CR-V, the right front passenger door lock wouldn't function from the driver's lock switch. All three other locked worked fine. So I replaced the actuator with one I got at a junk yard, and I first tested it directly from my battery. It worked. I then tested the old one the same way, and it worked also. So I hooked up test wired with a connector I also got at the junkyard, with about 6 inches of wiring on it. I connected it to the last connector on the door (where you plug in the actuator), and I found there is power at that point going to the actuator. But apparently not enough to power the lever on it. Now I am not sure what to do to fix it.

It's automatic awd but it is sluggish on take off, the rpms are going up but it barley moves. Its throwing a P0740. I'm going to test and change the shift solenoids and see if it helps. Also the speedometer is off by 10 mph. So it might need a speed sensor not sure. The fluid is good. Just wanted to know if you have had any experience with this issue? Thanks Jon!
@GarageBuiltHondas
@GarageBuiltHondas 6 жыл бұрын
I'm not familiar with that issue. But if the shift solenoids are throwing a code, then try to get that changed out and fixed asap. I bet it could be the problem. Mine is AWD and auto too, it's exactly what I wanted!

Yeah I hope it's a easy fix lol! What's your plans with your crv? Mine came lowered on coilovers but it's a very rough ride probably going back to stock or find a legit lowering kit , not sure yet. But I'm interested to see what you do with it but because all your cars are clean!👍

I only plan to perform any maintenance it needs and keep it as clean and functionally sound as possible. I might get some wheels eventually and maybe an intake and header to give it a little more power but that'll be it. It's my daily and I don't want to take away from how comfy it is.
