Great bumpers. Had them installed like 7 years ago and never looked back. Only thing is I don't have the fuel can attachment. Awesome video man. WJ all the way hahaha

Nice WJ build. I like the Protofab bumpers. They tuck up nicely and they mount securely. Great job, man. I do gotta say that I think you're crazy grinding with no eyewear, though.

Wasn't me. I was behind the camera. But yes, they acknowledged I'd get comments as such. Thanks for the kudos and comment!

I don't mind a little prefab work to install these type bumpers, It's how it will look after the work is done right? Oh, and nice job fellas.

The rig just keeps getting better. Looks great. My only question is why didn't they apply some paint to the cut/drilled areas? I guess it doesn't rain that much where you're at maybe?
@TheTSFChannel8 жыл бұрын
Actually, I was Johnny-on-the-spot with the rattle can action. Everything that got touched by the grinder got painted. Probably not obvious with the washers. But, yeah, California is a desert. I pray for rain, let alone mud!

It looks like there should be more reinforcement in the area they had to drill for mounting the rear bumper (2:17-2:40). I would be concerned about having any substantial weight on there. Other than that it looks great!
@TheTSFChannel8 жыл бұрын
There's 6x bolts to the unibody, where the OEM tow package was attached (2:44), the 4x bolts at the lift gate, the one's you're talking about, and there are two on top of the bumper itself, on either side of the stops, near the cut-away section (2:13) on top of the bumper (3:00). There are also small bolts which attach the forward parts of the bumper, near the wheel wells. They include spacers because the bumper construction provides a gap between the body and the inside of the bumper. You'd have to drill through the side panel and it would've been a pain. I opted not to install those.

I would've really liked to see more raw footage to see a step by step of the tire carrier. Awesome WJ though.
@TheTSFChannel8 жыл бұрын
Thanks, man. It's pretty much all there: remove the stock bumper, remove the rear wheel well cladding, remove the OEM tow package, cut the divots from the corners, "reshape" rear unibody seams if necessary (hammer part), bolt into existing tow package holes with existing hardware, etc, etc. Unfortunately, I can't drop a link to the install instructions here, on Google+ or on the Facebook page. I tried. But Mike at Proto Fab will email them to you. They come with full color photos. As with any accessory install process, it's easier said than done, especially with heavy steel. It didn't all go smoothly, but we made it happen.

in the process of installing the same bumper on my wj. What is the purpose of the large middle top cut you made? Is that necessary? Great video btw only one on the web for this bumper!
@TheTSFChannel7 жыл бұрын
You talking about the one at 2:15 to the rear area?
@TheTSFChannel7 жыл бұрын
If you freeze the video at 2:57, you'll see a couple stoppers for the swing-away tire and fuel carriers, and 2x D-rings where the carriers lock onto the bumper in the closed position. That space we cut from the WJ uni-body bumper allow for the adjustable hardware (bolts and nuts) someplace to go after the entire bumper is placed over and mounted flush with the uni-body section. Great question!

Main thing was I needed a longer front drive shaft. And when I went to replace mine, I discovered I needed to replace transfer case and differential seals, and the front differential expansion/relief hose needed to be longer.

TSF Channel where can i buy these bumpers they are so cool looking, I'll subscribe if u tell me lol
@TheTSFChannel7 жыл бұрын
Just saying. I didn't ask and they weren't included. So I don't have a ready spot to sling a snatch strap up front.
@wowcrazy707 жыл бұрын
TSF Channel oh i was talking about the front and rear bumpers they look cool as hell
@TheTSFChannel7 жыл бұрын
That's what I'm referring to: front and rear clevis mounts on the bumpers, where you can mount tow straps while you're on the trail. Sometimes, in an emergency, you don't have time to dig around inside to find a tow strap. Instead, they should be pre-mounted so you can quickly attach to a trail vehicle who can yank you out in an emergency. My bumpers don't have clevis mounts because I thought they were included and never asked about them. So, now, I'm kind of in a bind if I get mired in mud or sand. I have to stow a snatch strap inside the jeep which may hinder quick recovery.

Response from ProtoFab: Thanks for reaching out! I am curious why they are all asking you lol I am sorry about that. We are not producing WJ bumpers or any Jeep bumpers because it wasn't profitable anymore. There weren't enough bumpers being ordered which is why I find it funny that a bunch of people are asking about it. Feel free to direct them to us with any questions. Again sorry about the inconvenience! BTW we loved your video. We sent several people to it to help them with the install. You did an awesome job showing the steps. TSF Channel I just got my first WJ a few weeks ago and picking up another tomorrow, I’m curious if there are any pics or patterns available? Definitely something I’d be interested in duplicating if it’s no longer in production

I would put that question for your favorite Jeep forum. There are TONS of enthusiasts who design custom stuff. Hell, even looking at Google images in a bumper search would lead you to some interesting stuff. You might check Pinterest, too, for ideas and follow leads to designers who might sell plans, etc. Let us know how it goes!

I just dislike videos where they do the job all quick with no explanation on why they were gringing and what they were doing.
@TheTSFChannel5 жыл бұрын
This is just a survey of the task you'll have to perform if you go this route. I couldn't ask these guys to stop what we were doing so I could provide detailed explanation. Besides, we were trying to figure it out ourselves! LOL... I'm sure the guys at Proto fab would be happy to email you a pdf of the instructions. Then you can re-watch and follow along. Proto Fab's channel link is below in their comment, or you can click the link in the pinned comment up top.
