I’ll be honest with you here. The front doesn’t work and that is 100% due to the CLA graphics. The CLA is made like a baby crossover with a huge dip from the A pillar forward. If you had remembered that the CL is actually an S Class, then you could have taken the front from the S Class and it would have worked much better

I didn't know the CL was designed by an Australian designer. I am from Australia. The CL65 (or S65) of this era is literally my dream car 😍 Along with the W219 CLS, which in my opinion, is the best looking car ever made. Would have been cool if you could have called back to the split headlights, but nonetheless, it looks excellent!

Marouane: Love your channel. Here is an idea for you. When doing a modern interpretation of a classic design, instead of starting with an old car that you modernize, you start with a modern car and add design features from the classic model. As an example, a modern Mercedes CL influenced by the W111 fintail coupe. But you don't start of with the W111. Instead you base your design on a W223 S-class (I think the sedan is a better starting point than the CL in this case) and then modify it to be a 2-door coupe. And then you add some W111 design features.

This AMG V8 version housed the M113K supercharged engine. The 4.7L bi-turbo power plant came in the C216 chassis CL after this C215 chassis.

The CL on the thumbnail isn’t the ‘99 model, it’s the facelift 2002 version. By the way, the CL still exists today, Mercedes just renamed it as the S-Class Coupé. 😊👍

Those wheels are actually from the 2018 AMG GL 63. MB keeps using the same wheel design for at least 8yrs. They just put them on different models to make them look new. Also that interior is pre-face lift.

May I throw out a challenge to you? I saw two Dodge Callibers today on the same road, both still running and looking pretty cool from the rear 3/4 view. What if you updated their styling as a soft-roader, like the Subaru Crosstrek. Assume it's EV on the new Dodge Hornet platform. Can you make a new off-roadish small EV crossover for Dodge?

My only complaint would have to be that the old door handles were left untouched. This model was the predecessor to the S-Class Coupe and therefore would look much more modern and complete with the flush door handles of the modern S-Class imo. Still a great redesign!

I find the C215 CL so much better looking than the W220 S-class sedan. Really beautiful car 🥰, if it wasn't for the the poor quality reputation I would seriously consider a twin-turbo CL600. Interior is also really nice as long as it's not optioned with this almost orange looking interior wood trim.

Modernizing the cl is a good idea but I only can say that the front doesnt fit for a cl. A cl needs to look exklusive and the front just looks trash because it is abused by so many cars like cla, cls and the rest of it.

Personally I like the the fix applied at at the skirt/ B pillar junction. I think it adds solidify and mass to an an autobahn stormer.

I personally believe that your front end look a bit too crushed. Too similar with other M-B front ends. It has no proper signature as it should be.

the front of this mercedes is timeless, I am against your change, I find that the side view has aged badly because of the huge glass surface AND THE ABSENCE OF THE BONE LINE THAT GIVES THICKNESS .
