Excellent tip on the sheath orientation that covers the tensioner spring. Also. To press in a new seal , here is a trick I learned. Using the old seal, place it over the newly inserted seal. Then put the timing gear in place and tighten it until you can see the new seal completely seated. BTW the other viewer that suggested the Lisle seal puller offers a good solution. If you plan on doing more of these, get one. Real nice neat job. I swear, I have watched 5-6 different guys do this job and I learn something new every time.

These videos were done really well with great high quality resolution for someone who is new to changing timing belts/water pumps. One tip i would provide others is to use a seal puller made by lisle to make guess work easier. The part is Lisle 58430. Also use pick tools to remove O rings.

The correct tensioner set mark is seen clearly 60 degree before TDC @ 3:40 to 4:30 minutes of pt2.. Not the round one, but rounded-off rectangular at both ends.

+albumartist thank you very much for this video. I think this will help me a lot when changing my own timing belt. I sense it's going to be necessary soon... clutch will eventually follow within a year. I guess I can find that on the internet too. It's really much easier this way than going to a library and searching in books. Anyways thanks a lot, have a great time. Cheers ;-)

Thank You. It was fun project. I still have the car! Couldn't part with it because it's too much fun. Just turned 120k. If I save up enough I want to do a new series: roll bar install, stereo, front suspension. Would love to do a turbo install.

You should also change the C.A.S. ring since you had cam cover off.

Great video. Thanks for recording your work and helping others 👍 One question though. How many miles on your Miata that it needed this work?
@albumartist6 жыл бұрын
I bought the car with it have a little over 100k. The Miata had some tell tale signs of boy racer abuse (dented front nose cover, dented driver fender, fart can exhaust, K&N cone filter sucking in hot manifold air). I decided to play it safe and replace the seals/ belts so I could get a good look at the guts of the car.

I bought the car at 102-110k from what I remember. I didn't know what kind of maintenance had been done to the car before, so I decided to do all the belts.

Hey thanks for the videos! You seemed pretty comfortable with letting some seals/o-rings get damaged in removal. I'm going to assume I'll need to replace all of those as well. Were they included in a kit you got or did you just have them all purchased and on standby?

Adam Steff I ended up not using them because they weren't leaking. I don't remember if they were in a kit though.

Sorry for the delay in responses. KZbin used to send notification when someone commented on my vids. To answer your question, I had to purchase the seals separate. I didn't mind tearing them up considering I was going to replace them anyway.
