Back in the late 1990's I pretty much did the same, rounded my own cables, cobbled cathode bulbs together, cut blowholes into side panels. cut windows and used plexiglass, figured out out how to make a few rheostats to control fan speed etc. But I never ever did buy one of those 5.25 inch tape deck things! Unable to find a single one now :(

Oh boy... Cable management in any PC before the 2010's was a nightmare. Especially when dealing with IDE cables. Even those round IDE cables were still pretty difficult to deal with.
@nicholasbaldwin16746 жыл бұрын
This is epic. I was playing Unreal Tournament and remember playing it for hours. I also used to folded up IDE cables like that to maximize the airflow in the case and never had a window back then so didn't care all that much about looks, but always tight cable management to make sure best airflow for hours of UT gaming

What was worse than the IDE cable management back then was the mess of wires coming from the power supply. I have three older systems, I upgraded the power supplies on all of them, and one benefit of doing that is that all the newer power supplies have the cables wrapped already, then by tucking what is not used away into an unused drive bay you can make the case super tidy!

I've watched this video a couple of times now and I really like the cable management inside of that computer. It's on par with modern builds, but this computer case doesn't even have any built in management holes or hiding space! How awesome is that?? I've managed to adopt the art of folding ribbon cables myself now, but I'm still figuring out how to do psu cable management as good as this. But I'm gonna make it somehow, for my upcoming retro sleeper pc.

I had just been born, but only two years later I jumped headlong into websurfing and playing a few DOS games on windows 95. When my dad upgraded to Windows XP, I lost some of my interest. In 2010 he purchased a 2009 Inspiron 545, the poorly selling AMD version. Fast forward to 2021 and I'm tinkering with a pile of systems from 8080 to Pentium, can't get enough of what I missed. A sleeper build is on my itinerary in absolute. As is a reverse sleeper.

I owned no PC in '99. I was 25 years old and a few years shy of caring anything about PCs. It wasn't until '04, when I purchased a very expensive Alienware gaming laptop, that I saw the potential fun in all things PC. That finally died in '07, and a year later I graduated to a Core 2 Duo desktop from parts I ordered onTigerDirect.com. Since that moment, I've become a desktop purist and amateurish PC repairman.

Was 5 at the time so i was most likely playing with toy cars still & some rc car. Oldest pc i got is a amd k6-2+ taken from a laptop. original cpu was a pentium mmx 166 mhz overclocked too 200 mhz. 32 mb edo ram 4 gb ide harddrive quantum fireball of some sort. 4 mb voodoo 1 from diamond & a matrox mystique 4 mb With their own software rendering tech that was like supported in 8 games at best ? Soundcard is a soundblaster awe 32 pnp, but ive been trying too get a creative audio pci 3000 too work in it for a few days, might need too swap things around some more too get it working. Also working on a low budget windows 98 build using a socket 775 pentium 4 or a slow celeron underclocking it & a ati radeon 9550 256 mb & either using the built in sound or utilizing that audio pci 3000 card in this + the voodoo card with some heatsinks mounted on it, might skip the voodoo card & use nglide instead though. (Software wrapper utilizing dx9 & lately vulkan too run glide games with modern gpu's & processors.)
