man, I remember watching the original video back in 2007, my daughter was just a year old and I quit skateboarding, and started gaming, I used linus tech tips to build a water cooled loop, and your videos to put a window in my Antec 300. I drilled 1" holes in my mobo tray and glued square pieces of mouse pad around the whole to make grommets so I could cable manage everything and get it looking nice. I lost my youtube channel back in 2012 and all my videos, I wish I could have backed up all my projects back then. I never thought about saving my work, uploaded and deleted right away. now I miss making youtube videos.

I love this series so much. Kind of fun to see what kind of things had to be modded for back in the day that's now more or less commonplace even on budget cases. My first computer was a 486, sadly i don't have it anymore... But MAN would a pimped out 486 be both hillarious and amazing.

It was that original window mod video from 2007 that inspired what I'm going to be doing with my CM HAF XB of which I've affectionately named Winchester, after the Winchester Mystery House for the fact that I cannot, or perhaps will not ever stop building in it. Good name choice :) "In 1973, IBM introduced the IBM 3340 "Winchester" disk drive and the 3348 data module, the first significant commercial use of low mass and low load heads with lubricated platters and the last IBM disk drive with removable media. This technology and its derivatives remained the standard through 2011. Project head Kenneth Haughton named it after the Winchester 30-30 rifle because it was planned to have two 30 MB spindles; however, the actual product shipped with two spindles for data modules of either 35 MB or 70 MB. The name 'Winchester' and some derivatives are still common in some non-English speaking countries to generally refer to any hard disks"

I've done 1 window with a rotary tool and turned out pretty bad. I'm in the middle of another mod and was not looking forward to doing this again, but I have renewed hope after seeing this tutorial. Just ordered the Jigsaw blades you recommended, the sheet-metal I will be cutting is a little bit thicker than a standard PC Case, so hope it works OK. Thank you so much for this great tutorial and the top-quality parts you make (I've bought a few) :)

You should set up an online gallery with pics of those old builds. I used to follow the build logs on DFI-Street etc, but who knows where all those ended up.

I just bought a Thermaltake Soprano from the US and hopefully can get it to Australia! The goal is to fit a 3080 in there with a Ryzen core. Although I'd like to powder coat the inner frame and if possible, cut the top for an extra exhaust fan. Lets see how this goes :P

Modern PC case designs are so generic and "boxy",essentially only the front panel is differs from firm to firm.Remember doing my first window and rivet removal,was fun as heck.

i do not trust jigsaw, so back in the day, i use mini grinder all the way to cut the metal case... turn up quite nice and straight using aluminum ruler as a guide. then using double tape and fan screw for the plexiglass panel

What if an old side panel is not perfectly flat but has a bulge, and I don't want to make a window? How to make it flat again? I have come across many old cases with bulging side panels.

You can cut out the bulge, but only if your cut doesn't overlap the PC chassis frame, so you can attach acrylic window to backside of the side panel.

I've done case mods before, I've discovered it cost more to mod a case. By the time you buy all the necessary material to mod a case and the time to do it, may as well just buy a new case... they're not THAT expensive.
