after the recent rule changes , modern style looks actually mostly the same as this old one. The 12-16 era was the worst. It was the result of the bad rule set combined with the introduction of electronic scoring

Nah red shouldve won. The ref was being to strict one the tactical retreat, sometimes the only way to kick is to move back to make room. I hate to say this. But this is bullshit. Red put up a fight that deserved a gold honestly.

True! But his backing up wasn’t delaying or avoiding the fight, which is supposed to be the reason for the kyungo, I think the point deductions were given a little prematurely. However you’re right, as a defensive fighter he should have paid attention better. Thanks for watching

It's point sparring I guess there's limited punching coz kicks fetch more points and punching in this scenario leaves you vulnerable to counters using kicks which is an advantage to the opponent. Maybe you'd find ITF style more entertaining or even Olympic style karate
