Just change front brakes pads and speed sensor on 2005 Tahoe LS and now abs, t/c and e brake light stayed on. As before the abs and t/c light would come on once in a while. Why does lights stay on now is my question?

I tried this and it worked on my 2005 Silverado (4x4)! I took my truck to the shop to replace the wheel hub from the passenger side. After I picked up the truck from the shop, the ABS activated at slow speeds. There was no light on the dash though. It felt that the ABS was activating on the driver's side. I took the truck to be diagnosed and they told me there were no codes. So I took it upon myself to check the sensor on the driver's side. I followed the instructions on this video. When I inspected the sensor I noticed that it was a little detached. I took it off and cleaned it real well. I also sanded the place where it went. I sprayed a little paint. After I put everything back together, I test drove the truck and the ABS no longer activated! Thanks to this video, I was able to solve the issue!

I put a pair of MOOG front hubs on my 1997 GMC suburban K1500 back in 2019 and the ABS started acting up this month. After thoroughly cleaning the surfaces, everything worked fine. There was a shim on each side that I cleaned and reused as well with no ABS activity.. Thanks for the great post and advice.

That piece you called a "gasket", "plate", then "washer" is a shim. Some have more or no shims at all. If you remove all the rust and the abs still comes on, try removing a shim or two. The O ring is the "gasket" that keeps out debris. Great videos!

Just did this on my 2006 silverado 2500hd. It worked😊. A couple of comments: 1. If the truck is old enough to have this problem, you will probably break off the sensor sleeve when you remove it. The plastic sleeve will break off and stay in the hole in the hub. Don’t despair. Use some needle nose pliers to pull out the sleeve and throw it away. If the sensor itself is not damaged, get some liquid electrical tape and paint it all around the sensor and it’s tip. Let it dry for two hours before you reinstall it. To make sure water doesn’t get into the hole, get some plumbers putty and spread it around the base of the sensor before you reinstall it. Finally get a lock washer that is just big enough to fit over the Allen bolt. This will make sure that the Allen bolt presses the plastic sensor assembly tight against the hub where you filed and sanded away the rust. I’ve had this problem on a 1995 Yukon and my 2008 Silverado. Both when the hit their 8th year on the road. Poor design my gm. Thanks so much for making this video. It will help many people.😊

Okay so I've been following you guys for quite a while. I've been doing this 28 years and I cannot figure out this low speed ABS activation. It's usually when pulling up to a stop sign or a red light weather the steering wheel is straight or slightly turned the ABS pump kicks in and the service stabiltrack comes comes on the display. It is a 2008 Chevy Express 3500 regular cargo 6.0 l. I have replaced the front hub assemblies with new sensors and the two rear sensors with the AC Delco pigtail kits as well , I have also replaced fuses and relays just in case , inspected wiring to the module for the ABS and I was told that the only two things left are the steering wheel position sensor and the brake switch that could be causing this. Like I said I am a huge fan of you guys and hope you have more knowledge on this because I can't track down this problem that is freaking out the drivers in my fleet. HELLLPP

Just wanted to point out that if these are active sensors, they require a good electrical ground especially where the sensor mounting screw base metal collar contacts the metal wheel hub. Removing all the rust will resolve a poor ground issue if the issue is rust at the point of contact between the ground collar/ mounting bolt collar and the hub. Either way (active or passive sensor) always clean the mounting surface of any rust.

2002 Tahoe LS having pulsing when stopping at low speeds. I is not my front disc/brake pads I replaced those a year ago. I rather just replace the front abs speed sensors and clean out the abs hub. I am not getting any abs notifications via "Check Engine" light when it is on so sensors (oem) might be good but it is a 2002 so rather just replace it. Gonna follow this kat's video. Thank You.

I followed the procedure exactly to get rid of the constant abs activation in my 2004 Tahoe 4x4. I even used a couple spritzes of spray paint, as recommended. On the driver's side, I had the little flimsy metal gasket but on the passenger side, there wasn't one but the sensor was of a different brand (not sure if that explains it). I just put everything back together rust free and no more clicking. Liberal use of brake cleaner is key to make the cleaning easy of the hub and sensor.

I wish I had seen this video first. Had a similar problem on my 02 Chevy S10 Blazer. Previous owner let the passenger side front brake get to Bare metal on the inner pad. Diagnostic tool said "erratic signal/no signal from passenger side front sensor, and that set an ABS DTC light. Upon inspection that sensor wire looked cut or just the casing was loose at the sensor. I bought 2 news ones to replace both. Had to clean out some metal shavings stuck to the magnet in the sensor. Wasn't rusty on that side so I didn't clean the mounting surface by file or emory cloth. Now I get the low speed abs activation, but no codes set. I'll check the driver's side sensor mounting area for rust when I replace that sensor, and go back over the passenger side and clean out any more metal shavings with compressed air & brake cleaner. Then coat both mounting surfaces with a rust inhibitor.

I have a 1997 gmc jimmy when the ball joints went bad while under warranty the dealer cut the wheel speed sensor wires instead of unplugging them. They repaired the cut with simple wire connectors. When those corroded the ABS system would activate without much brake pressure but it just cycled the fluid inside the ABS valve removing all hydraulic pressure to the wheels. Giving complete brake failure. It surprised me because I actually worked at the TRW plant in Fowlerville MI where these systems were made. They told us any failure in the ABS system would result in the system returning you to just standard brakes. Unfortunately this is not true. Luckily no one was hurt. I since replaced the backing plates with new wheel speed sensors. These new ones started rubbing inside the rim and the same thing happened again. Now I just leave it unplugged.

It feels like a wheel bearing that is trying to lock up but then it goes away and it makes a growling sound. After I speed up it doesn't do it. But it's very unnerving.

I thought the spec on the caliper mounting bracket to the hub is 40ft.lb? Either way there is plenty torque, no axial load on the bracket only shear load. Great video was thinking of doing just this however replacing the entire hub doesnt seem to pricey. Are there any tricks to removing the CJ joint from the hub or is it just a centre bolt holding it to the spindle??

@Papasmurf425 2 жыл бұрын
That’s sounds like the slider bolts that hold the caliper onto the bracket. Bracket bolts are 133ft lbs

First off the proper tourque is 120 ftp on wheel lugs and should have been tightined a minimum of twice at half and then full I personally prefer doing it in three steps to final tourque believe it or not improper tourque of lug nuts on a setup like that one is number 1 cause of rotor warpping believe it or not but absolutely true also your only supposed to use electrical parts cleaner on sensor not brake parts cleaner unless certified for electrical parts as well you also didn't put any locktite on bracket bolts nor any antiseaze on sensor bolt or hub face to keep rotor from corroding to the hub and you didn't clean out the sensor hole and your not supposed to sand near the sensor or it's mounting holes as the magnet in the sensor can pickup the magnetic particles including the microscopic ones and can a rune sensor altogether even a brand new one can be runed like that

Like your calm video's. Not sure if all ABS systems are the same? Have you ever come across wheel speed test with scanner that shows speed of all tires and the rear two are half the speed of the front tires. I'm a do it yourselfer.

@@1AAuto You have a great web site, i put on a couple of rear abs sensors, wrong gap on left rear and wrong type on right rear. When i do a wheel speed test, i was getting half the speed of front wheels. Speedometer doesn't work. Back to the drawing board. Maybe it's the toning rings on hub 120,000 miles. May be the Bosch 5.7 abs module? Before i do that? Wish i had a hoist.

Great video. I guess this is my issue. 2008 Chevy Express 1500 2WD. Braking on low speed(coming to a stop)I feel a vibration pushing back on the pedal(pedal kick back) and soft brake pedal feel, is this the ABS kicking in? The feeling is like when your car skids on snow and pedal kicks back on your foot. Thanks for the help, I'm looking for a reputable mechanic in my are(though job). North Jersey.

Thanks for the great video , Question.... Will a faulty wheel speed sensor throw the truck into a limp code ????..Like reduced speed and transmission staying in 2nd gear
@1AAuto
@1AAuto 4 жыл бұрын
+John Klauzinski Thanks for checking us out! A faulty ABS sensor could cause this 'limp mode' to be activated. The reason that an issue will put the vehicle in this mode is because it is designed to protect the transmission from further damage that could be caused by the signal error. The computer will do this when an input (from the defective part) is not what it was programmed to expect. It is a protection mode essentially. 1aauto.com

I'm having the same problem ... my ABS light is on and the service brake light comes on and my 02 Tahoe won't go out of second gear.. I have cleaned every ground, fixed ones that were missing, tested voltage at ABS wiring plugs and the abs wires show resistance at ohm check.. will see if this helps.. it has been making the abs noise at random slow down/stops..

this may work fine for older hubs, I have same issue with both new hubs and sensors, so its not a cleaning problem , will have to see if the new sensors that came installed on the new hubs are just bad , unfortunately this video didnt help me at all , i need to know how to check the new hubs and new sensors to know if they are bad at being new .

Does this problem keep the vehicle in low gear and cause speed restriction?
@ramphalsa
@ramphalsa 4 жыл бұрын
No. That may be a faulty 4WD selector switch or a faulty cable going to the 4WD motor that engages the transfer case. Pay careful attention when that happens to see if the 4WD selector is in 4-Low. That would cause the behavior you're seeing as well as a warning message on the dash stating that the stability and ABS systems are disabled.
