I would’ve never thought of dropping the front bushing of the rear lower control arm! The amount of time it saves! I’ve been replacing the struts without dropping it. What a hassle!

I was called to help a person who watched this video on their 2011 Honda crv. They did this step by step, after I helped get it back together on left side I showed him how to do it right side, remove upper bolts, then lower, use 5' bar across upper suspension lower remove the strut , insert sane way the new strut. Took all of 20 minutes with a wheel back on , not removing control arm bolts or anything else. Her way is longer, and if people are doing this on jack stands takes hours.

Very important that you remove the assembly tab on the top of the Honda original struts, this tab locks the strut in place during the assembly process. It is not possible to remove the strut without removing the tab. Other than the wrong bolt sizes great video, help a lot

Thanks for the video. One correction as it is a safety issue. @ 16.43 in the video it mentions the incorrect torque for those trailing arm bushing bolts. It should be 84.6 lb-ft per the manual or just round it up to 85 lb-ft...............again thank you for the awesome step by step video.

I just did this over the weekend, and this method ended up being the easiest, especially when it comes to putting the bottom bolt back in the lower shock mount. This is not designed very well and could have been easier with a better design. Fortunately, my rear shocks lasted about 160,000 miles. If you power wash before you get in there you would be surprised how clean it can be R.A.

You do not need to remove the two bolts attaching the control arm assembly to the frame. Use a long pry bar, instead to pull down the assembly. This is especially important if your Honda went through the rear frame reinforcement recall where a plate bracket was attached to the rear of the car in front of the rear wheel well. The front bolt has to go through the new plate, then through the control arm bracket, then into the frame. It's a nightmare to align all of them up if you are working on your back on the floor in the garage.
@boosted_donkey
@boosted_donkey 3 ай бұрын
If you have difficult struts like I had that was really snug where the bottom bolt goes it's easiest to disconnect that arm on the top of the spindle then the 2 lca bolts while being supported with a jack. It gives you so much more play. To reconnect the top arm just jack up underneath the spindle until the strut compresses enough to get the bolt through after you put the lca bolts back in
@Superchad245
@Superchad245 Жыл бұрын
Is it possible to use a spring compressor to replace the strut without removing the control arm bolts and not lowering the control arm? after Honda did the rear subframe repair the bracket for the repair goes over the front bolt of the control arm requiring removing the entire recall repair bracket in order to lower the control arm.

Excellent video, I've got this job to do on my CR-V, unfortunately the previous owners garage fitted the wrong strut to my car. In the UK 🇬🇧 we have the option for Xenon lights. As part of the automatic headlight leveling system there is a sensor the bolts to a bracket that is welded to the rear strut. The rear strut on mine doesn't have the bracket and they just left the sensor arm hanging free. For reference the Honda part number for my 2007 Mk3 strut is 52611SWAE02. Happy spannering 🔧

2008 CRV: The bottom of my strut has a linkage that I didn't see in this video. The linkage is just under the coil spring itself and goes to a thin plate. On that plate there is a type of sensor with some wires running to it. Does anyone know what this is because mine appears to have a bad stress crack in it; maybe due to the bad strut.

wow thanks -- so only two things I would correct ... 1. AN IMPACT WRENCH is your best friend, cut the time down by 1/2 .... 2. When they say the shocks come with 14mm nuts what they mean is 15mm ... no worries though ....A racing FLOOR jack is your best friend - unless there is someone to help push things out of your way to remove and put back new springs - you need 3 hands ...

I agree. Bushings should be tightened in the static position, meaning, as though the car was on the ground with the weight of the car on them. I just did this job and put a block under the suspension and lowered the car until the weight was on it and then tightened the lower shock bolt.

There is a problem in using impacts though. Even if I wasn't a professional mechanic, I wouldn't let most mechanics touch my car because of that. Impacts should rarely ever be used, especially in regular service. Unless you are working on older vehicles frame, steering box, large trucks, etc...and still really only for bolts with 1/2" shaft or larger.
