So I ordered front and rear shocks, and two are one style and the other two are a different style. Does it matter which style goes where?

Oh, and the boxes aren't labeled front or back.

With 30 years of installing, one would imagine that installing that shock with the suspension extended like it was ( evident by the small amount of compression required to mount second/lower shock eyelet ), that the boot should have been zip tied in an semi extended relation. Instead, the video shows it being in a compressed s shape that will rub on the shaft when in use @ ride height and under compression. Might add why ford recommends hardware replacement as well. The nuts are a self locking variety that does not offer the same retention qualities upon reuse. Blue/medium thread locker might maintain retention. Follow torque specs and save the hardware. Great Vid. thanks

My new rear shocks are 8 inches longer than my originals...is it possible to make them fit??? Lots of compression. Billstein 5100s

If only everyone owned a lift! Make a video doing it the poor mans way
@1AAuto5 жыл бұрын
+Clyde Smith We use a lift to make it easier to film so people can see it clearer. The same procedure can be used with a jack and jack stands

It’s a F250 4x4. Plenty of room to slide under and work with the wheels on the ground. Pry bar and 2nd jack isn’t needed either. Just compress shock by hand, hold in place with one hand while sliding bolt through with the other.

Seriously, I get tired of watching videos of guys doing projects like this, with a damn lift... Not everyone, most people do not have access to a lift, and if you literally can't figure out how to undo a bolt, then you shouldn't do it.. I came here because I plan on doing this in the only place I can, in the driveway, and just wanted to see how it was jacked up, what was supported and how...

The shocks I bought, are under pressure, so when unstrapped they are too long to get on a hanging suspention... I wanted to see how it was done. Doing it on the ground is always so different then on a hoist.. People with hoists, really don't think they need to know how to unbolt and bolt a shock in.. My 2¢ would be to show average Joe how to do it on the floor, with floor Jack's, and jack stands like 90% of DIY guys have to...

Just installed shocks today. I did not use a jack. Just slid under truck on a creeper, used a Impact wrench w. a swivel head adapter to loosen the top bolt due to spare tire and frame. I could’ve just used wrenches. I let the shock decompress, fitted and zip-tied boot, slid top part on the bolt then hand tightened nut. Compressed bottom of shock and lined up with two hands. Held with one hand while pushing bolt through with other hand.

@@stanleysgill I just did it, I am a female, and it was easy! I left them strapped, installed the top bolt, then cut the strap and eased into place as it decompressed. You can use a floor jack to compress the shock into place, if you didn't do it like I did. Does that make sense?

You don’t jack your truck to do shocks the video would look exactly the same except he’d just be laying down. Lol
