Hey what's the size,thread, and thickness of bolt that is between the 2 hose lines that connects to the rack and pinion?

if they need to be replaced? The new power steering hose has to have the oring installed, it comes with it off! Pretty important part, and should always replace the seals. should be shown in this video, as the gaskets are literally stuck in the rack n pinion and have to be pryed out. If a DIyer doesnt know this, he may not realize this and try installing two seals........... this is the only reason i am watching this video too, to see how you removed those two seals in the rack n pinion

Yeah I followed the video. Knew nothing about stuck seals. Very crudely jammed the hoses in the rack. Leaking was almost instant but very slow. I didn't know from where. Recently the leak moved to full catastrophic. Haven't checked the connection but I suspect it's the culprit. The rack is all wet but it's also the lowest point below all the return lines

The system is self-priming. You don't need to oscillate the wheels 12x. You do need to make sure the reservoir has enough fluid when you start up the vehicle. Best practices: Fill the reservoir with fluid and let the pump prime with gravity before you install the hose at the reservoir end / rack end. This ensures you have fluid at the slippers inside the pump. Safest priming procedure to avoid burning out your pump: Make sure the reservoir is filled with fluid. Start the vehicle, run at idle for about five to ten seconds. Recheck fluid levels. Refill if necessary. (Up to this point, you ensure the return lines are filled with steering fluid.) Then oscillate the wheels a few times, lock to lock. This removed air from the rack. Recheck fluid levels. Fill if necessary. (Now the entire system should be filled with fluid) Power steering fluid has an antifoamer additive and so you should recheck after a few minutes to make sure you still have enough fluid in the system. Yes, you can oscillate the rack at the beginning, but you ultimately want to make sure the slippers have fluid.

I am not sure I understand correctly. If I add fluid before installing a hose (are you talking about the hoses in this video, if so which one?), wouldn’t the fluid leak out of the fitting?

how to you install the seal cups that came with the hoses? do you push then into the holes or do you put them on the hose ends and use the pressure from the bolt when you tighten to get them seated?

I did this job on ramps so my truck was only raised about a foot. I recommend using a hoist. the tech says that a 4x4 model is "a little trickier" to reinstall the pump connection. Try almost impossible....it's all by feel, took me 3 hours to get it lined up and the thread started with no cross threading. Removing the cup seals was another 3 hour marathon. I ended up using a 10 mm bolt force threaded into the old seal and a slide hammer to get it started out, along with a small stout screwdriver to pop them out.Try pricing a high quality seal puller to do this job.

Thanks for the video. When I change my fluid the lazy way (remove/refill fluid in reservoir, crank wheel a few times, empty/refill a few more times) I usually jack the front end up off the ground just to take the pressure off the steering components. I'm no mechanic, but most of the internet wizards out there say that going lock-to-lock while not in motion is no bueno. Or there's' the trusty two sheets of cardboard trick I learned from you lol

Still trying to find a video for help on the seals! All these "professional" videos seem to forget about those. Of course, the HARDEST and most important part. My original seal was on the INSIDE of the lip on the rack, but the new one will NOT go in. So the old one was inside and the new one outside?

I really would love to "Thank U Buddy" for the video. A couple days ago, to keep this short and sweet. My issue started haunting me, dripping at this location. [As your installing the new hose 4:34 time at the first location.] > Started with wiping the hose from that location towards the unit where the fluid is held. I noticed it was running underneath the hose, I could not turn over the hose to notice if it had a crack, somehow so I tried to notice where you had first installed the replacement hose if there was room to install another hose clamp after the one that comes with the hose unit. There was area room. I thought case closed, but behold I came home getting out of the truck, I noticed at the front of the front tire inner wheel area wet. fuzz. I'm located in Ontario Canada, so sorry but the closest parts store would be, Part Source. But, friend 10,000.00 Stars on your video. Sam... I guess replacing fluid would be Dot 3 Right Power Steering Fluid? I'm not sure, why this happened as it's 11-year old from 2008 to 2019?

Does a 2011 Tahoe 4WD use the same pressure hose assembly? All of the pictures of hoses I've found on various parts websites don't have both lines joined together at the rack connector.
@randomsanwhich2
@randomsanwhich2 5 жыл бұрын
What you see here is them replacing two hoses, two seperate part numbers. You dont have to replace both at the same time. The host from rack to pump has the bracket, the hose from the rack to cooler simply slides over the bracket. Its best practice to replace both hoses at the same time.
@The411
@The411 5 жыл бұрын
The part they replaced in this video is actually made up of 2 assemblies. 80617 and 80618 the bracket that joins them together is physically attached to the high pressure hose 80617. In the part catalogs they are always pictured as their separate components. You don't have to replace both, but it's good practice. They normally come with a new seal, which they did NOT replace in this video.

I'm replacing mine right now. They come with the new rack and pinion. You have to get a knife and slit the plugs which are marked and you push them in and just tighten the new line again. Be aware the part where you install the rack into the steering control is hard you have to beat that mf out with a hammer. The bolt hold it tight but even after taking it off it's still hard. I had to smack it twice for it to release.

This will eventually cause leaks. This is the high pressure side of the pump. Replace the fitting with another pump's fitting from a junk yard. !!Make sure it is the exact same vehicle and engine as yours. Otherwise, fluid fill rates will vary and you may have steering issues.
