A word of caution to all. If you buy all 4 exterior replacement handles, when working the right side take note that the front and rear door handles look identical from the outside. The difference is in the linkage arm that the push rods connect to. On the front handle, the linkage arm on the handle is short and on the rear handle it is twice as long. Do not install the rear handle on the front door......unless you like to enter your passenger front side like one of the Duke boys from Hazzard County.....You will not be able to open that door after you put it all back together and then shut the door. The longer linkage arm messes up the geometry intended for the push rod down to the latch, and binds up the works. It will even prevent the interior handle from being able to engage the latch as well. What? Who? No, a friend told me......

Just completed this job and have a couple of comments: for those saying they didn't show removal and transfer of the door lock cylinder, it is simple. Just held into the door handle by a spring clip, which is easy to pry off with a flat-blade screwdriver or similar tool. Also, the electrical connector for the heated seat switch is one of the ones which are disconnected from the window switch/door lock assembly. For my 2012 LT, I had a total of five plugs to disconnect.

Instructions were “right” on! Mine was a broken passenger side handle (attempted theft) but the instructions were the same for the driver side for my 09 Chevy Tahoe LTZ. It took less than 20 minutes to repair. Thanks!

This is a great tutorial. My Tahoe's doors froze shut due to some freezing rain over night and I yanked my driver door handle right off. I paid a lot for this vehicle -- why is the handle made out of plastic? This is going to save me a lot of money.

Making the handle out of plastic saves GM a lot of money too. I do agree, they certainly should be more rugged. Plastic/polymer with metal reinforcements would be nice.

Took my time watching the video while working and knocked it out in under an hour. Great video. Switching the lock was easy which is not included in the video. Broken handle had missing locking tabs so look out for them on the new handle. You kind of have to firmly press in and slide forward and Perfect fit. Thanks again. Alex 2009 Chevy Suburban LTZ NOW I JUST NEED TO REPLACE THE FRONT PASSENGER AND BOTH REAR DOOR LOCK ACTUATORS. Do you have a video for that?

Thanks for your guidance! Removed broken driver's exterior handle. Got it out and replaced with a new handle. Everything is reconnected but with the door closed and using the handle on the outside, it doesn't open the door. Any suggestions?

Anything on what to do when the door is stuck closed? Driver's side exterior door handle just broke, and at first it wouldn't open from the inside. Then, it wouldn't close, and latch. Then, it closed, and latched, but will not open from the inside. I'm 3 hours away from home, working. so, at least it's closed now...

I believe you only pulled 4 harnesses out from behind the door. Was the heated seat harness also supposed to be pulled out at that time ? If so i do believe you forgot to hook it up as i seen you only connect 4 harnesses ??

what is the purpose of rolling the window down and then back up again? can this be skipped?
