One trick I use when taking the big nut off and torquing it back on is to put a large screwdriver through the caliper into the vent of the rotor...it keeps it from turning and you dont have to have a buddy hold the brakes.

@izzylogan25 We used a wire brush to clean any rust out of the hub cavity. We do not need to use any grease when putting it back in.

finally got the hub off today - at first tried a mallet - a big sledge worked with 1/4 the effort

If you don't use it very often the linkage under the truck might be freezing up on you. I have a 97 Grand too that this happened too. The previous owner never used the 4WD so I had to crawl under there and clean some of the linkage up and put a little grease on it. I've seen this happen on Cherokees too. You might want to check there to see what it looks like. Hope this helps you out -Tony

Our bearings come pre-pressed into the bearings. It eliminates the need for having to press everything together.

If the bearings and axles keep breaking there could be an issue with the differential putting to much stress on the bearing and axle itself. Also if you do a lot of offroading or constantly have the vehicle in 4wd on dry pavement can cause damage to both the axle and the wheel bearings.

The issue could be related to the drivetrain and not the hubs. The rear wheels are the main drive wheels when in 2WD so when you put it into 4WD the issue is going to be from the front of the vehicle.

This was actually my Jeep that we shot the video on. When I drove over 30mph the bearings were making kind of a humming noise. The wheels didn't seem to have any play in them when moving the tire back and forth. Once we removed the hub from the knuckle, I could see that there was quite a bit of play in the old bearings. I recently put a lift kit on my 02 grand cherokee about 2 months before the lift I put new hubs on, but now when i throw the jeep into 4 wheel drive it sounds like a grinding sound coming from near the hubs. Would a lift make the hubs go bad that fast? And if so, what hubs would you recommend for a 4 inch lift kit? thanks

Hi thank you for all the great videos, they've helped me a lot over the years. I have a question though. I have a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee, and I'm going through front hub assemblies like crazy, I've replaced them along with the axles 4 times in the last 2 years, and when they go out, they break in two pieces. I've had this vehicle aligned and was told that it aligned just fine and nothing seemed bent or anything. Why am I going through so many hub bearings?

+Marcos Estrada Thanks for watching! In order to have enough clearance for the wheel hub, the ball joints would need to be disconnected. You may certainly disconnect the ball joints and replace them prior to doing the hub.

HI Donald, If there are a lot of miles on the vehicle, it wouldn't hurt to change them. Also check the condition of the brake pads and rotors while your in there. We carry some nice brake pad and rotor kits on our website, and also the wheel bearings along with the axles for your 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Just make sure you use a torque wrench on that axle nut, do not impact in on. Tighten it to the correct torque specs. We also offer free shipping on all orders. Hope this helps you out. Thank you for watching! The bearungs are pre greased and then sealed so there is no need. However if you want to make you life a little easier grease the outside of the bearing where it sits in the spindle. That way if it has to come out in the future it wont be stuck. 888-844-3393
