I wasn't able to feel any play in the tire, but once I took the hub out of the knuckle I was able to wiggle the front and back of the hub quite a bit. If you take the tire and brakes off you can probably try to wiggle it by hand once the, rotor, pads and caliper are out of your way. Here's a link to the Timken bearings on our website.1aauto.com/1A/wheel-bearing-hub-front/Jeep/GrandCherokee/TKSHS00034/510969/2000?ATony

The brake caliper should be tied up with a wire to prevent it from dropping and accidentally stretching the rubber brake line. Also some rotors have access holes where you can simply screw in small bolts to remove the rotor with ease, check for those before pulling out the hammer. I liked the video thank you for uploading.

This video really helped me get prepared to do the job on my 2002 Grand Cherokee. But I ended up using some different sockets: . I bought a 1 7/16 socket for the axle nut but it seemed larger than I wanted, for standing on the breaker bar. I happened to have a 36 mm one from another project and it fit perfectly. So I would suggest that, especially if purchasing one. . To remove the brake caliper I needed a 7 mm hex driver (allen wrench). It took me quite a while to find the right one among my various sets. Maybe my caliper had been changed with one with different fasteners than original(?) . For the caliper bracket I needed an 18 mm socket. 3/4 or 11/16 did not fit for me. I had to go out a borrow one of those though I have multiple tool sets. . Probably not necessary but I also removed the rotation sensor (antilock brakes). That took an 8 mm socket. Thanks again for a great video.

Older years are mostly the same back to at least 92 except the bolts are different sizes and the brake calipers are slightly different. A box-end wrench will substitute for the 12 point socket and is harder to break. Do the axle nut first even if you are using impact tools, if it's badly rusted you may need more torque than the impact tools can provide. If you've not got a car lift and are working near the ground you won't have space for the cheater bar on the wrench, but you can put a jack under it and/or make your own impact wrench by driving the wrench around with a hammer. It's painfully slow though, and don't do it with a ratchet if you can avoid it, you're likely to break it.

Can you do a video on loos tie rods. I installed brand new MOOG tie rod ends, center link and drag link 3 months ago and I have play in tire from left to right rocking it back and forth. Looks like the new tie rod end on knuckle driver side is moving about 3-6mm. I probably over greased them and didn't torque them to 35Ft-Lbs

The top of the wheel doesn't move inward and outward right? My ball joints are real solid too. Control arm bushings maybe? 🤔

@1aauto, I am in the middle of replacing my from bearing on my 2000 acura TL. I cannot for the life of me get the damn hub off. The axel is free but no matter how hard I bang and pound, I can't get the hub free. I dont see any hub bolts like you show in this video but it sure as hell feels like the thing is bolted on. I am unable to get any good whacks at it because the rotor shield if in the way and I can't get the shield off either. Would a hub puller from my local parts rental store help?

check this out i had i grinding squealing noise when i was turning too...towards the end before i got it serviced the noise started appearing while not turning also ...just driving straight...it turned out my brand new diff (you could call "recently serviced") lost the C-clip inside the diff which holds the rear axel into the rear diff meaning it became disconnected...this means that the axel was moving back and forth as I would turn the car...i guess the c-clip didnt snap off completely but what ever was going on there was "play" in a back and forth motion which was causing enough tilt during a turn where my caliper/brake pad (not sure which one) was scraping my rotor whenever i would turn... replaced the c-clip no noise since and they replaced all parts that were collateral damage...check to see if there is rotor damage to see if you have a lose axel...very rare but check it out kinda curious

gc does not have a rear hub assembly, your prob refering to the axle bearings and the axle itself. youll have to take off the caliper, cradle, axle retaining plates and the axle should slide right out. if its stuck use a brass or rubber mallet to loosen, or a large pry bar. if u need more insight you can pm me. i just did my rear seals on my 02 gc.

I am having a very intermittent squealing coming from what sounds most like the passenger front of my '03 JGC. could the hub be the cause? We've found that on these 99-04 Grands, they'll typically start making a high pitched whine or squeal at around 30 MPH when the hub bearings go bad. You may also notice a great deal of wear on the outer edge of the front tires. If yours are bad, we carry new wheel hub bearings on our website with a 2 year warranty and free shipping in the lower 48 states. I’m no mechanic. So I need some help. My jeep I just bought, an 01 Jeep Grand Cherokee. It makes a humming noise that gets louder the faster you go. The previous owner says it’s the rear passenger side shock that needs to be replaced.. but shocks don’t make that noise I don’t believe. We drove it 3 hours home after we purchased it. I’m just worried that it could be the rear differential. Is there any other things that would tell me which it is? It’s not terribly loud but it is very noticeable and can irritate you lol
