This video was outstanding! As an amateur Jeeper I was able to not only replace the axle seals, but also the u-joints and flex hoses on my 2010 JK in one swoop!

A friend asked me to watch this vid and see what I thought about it. They did a good job except, over half of leaking axle seals that our shop have repaired in well over 2 decades (especially on the front Dana 30 and Dana 44) on Wranglers and even the early CJ’s can be traced to a bent axle tube(s). Most shops don’t realize this and if they suspect this problem don’t know how to correctly check for a bent tube. This problem can occur even on a Jeep with stock tires and little or no lift. If you have an axle seal that is leaking and the seal surface on the axle shaft is good and the seal surface looks good (and many look just like this) there is a high probability of a bent tube. Remember there’s a reason that seal is leaking, passenger cars are known to go deep into 6 figure mileage with no problems, Jeep’s (and many other 4x4’s) do not fare so well.
@trevornipges3 жыл бұрын
Just Jeeps! Only Jeeps! Jeeps are the only 4x4 stock vehicle I have heard of that can’t go 100000 miles without needing tons of wrench time. The amount of time and money I put into my wife’s Jeep is ridiculous. It has 120000 miles on it and I spend twice as much time and money in comparison to my 1998 H1 that is off road regularly and used for towing.

I've got 230k on my 2012. I do general maintenance but should do more preventative maintenance on it. It has issues on wear parts and the radiator tank just cracked but it's been in every climate from -50 to 110 with no major issues. As for the H1? After my time in the Army, no thanks.

I like that you cleaned all the parts before reinstalling. The only thing I do more is add antiseize to the bolts that hold the bearing hub and around the hub itself when I put it in the housing. It will make my life easier next time. Thx for the video.

Dude, thank you for this video. I literally followed step by step and got it done. The one thing that happened though is my shims fell out when I was removing the gear, but when I watched the rest of your video, I seen that you installed bevel out, luckily you showed that part or I would be in a world of hurt. Thanks again

Great video - Professional Tip - Never *ever* install a seal without lubricating the seal surface. I realize that there is gear lube on one side of the seal, but with a double-lip seal you HAVE to lubricate it or you will burn up the dry seal in short order...

I had 2 E Torx bolts (bearing) that were stripped from sometime in the past. I couldn't get a grinder in to cut. Lots of penetrating oil and sweet talk got it. Added a bunch of time to the repair 🫤.

I might be over thinking this, but when you put the axles back in will they just slide in easily?? I put my seals in today and then the gears and got the cover sealed and put back on. I did have to hammer w a rubber mallet to get the gears in all the way. I guess i would have benefited from a case spreader. So I went to put one axle in and it gave me resistance, so I stopped and left it that way. So I just want to make sure that is normal. I have never done any work w taking an axle apart, so I'm totally new at this and don't want to mess anything up. Is there anything specific I should know?? Thanks in advance. 😊

I went through the same thing. If you didn’t use a mopar pinion seal use one. The aftermarket pinion seals are different. Replaced with factory one and never had another issue

Definitely use a Spicer pinion seal. If it's a Dana axle, use Dana/Spicer parts imho. 99% of the time in my experience, no issues whatsoever.

I have a 2011 Jeep wrangler unlimited Sahara that sputters and misses badly only when drive mode, but runs normally when in park and the DTC shows PO300, PO138 and P1128 codes. I've replaced all of the sparkplugs, wires, coil pack and checked for possible vaccum leaks with non being found, but I still have the sputtering, shaking and misfiring when I put it in drive. Can anyone please provide me with a possible solution to my problem? I'll certainly appreciate it... My last resort would be a trip to the dealership, but I'm trying to hold off for now.

If you are in Florida look up Pit Stop in Sarasota. The ace mechanic there, Rainman Ray (his channel), has tremendous troubleshooting skills. The problem with "stealerships" is that they throw parts at a problem. I suspect the majority of the mechanics don't have a clue as to how to properly diagnose a problem like yours. Good luck.

I can pretty much guarantee that if they put in an outer seal it would get destroyed in short order doing any kind of off road (dust, sand, gravel).
