All of these transmission problems you talk about are with the 4 cylinder 2.7 tacoma also. I am so tired of Toyota always only concerned with their flagship Tacoma with the V6. The 4 cylinder tacoma trans shifts like garbage and is all over the place making engine run at 1600 RPM in 6th gear up slight inclines. My whole experience with my 4 cylinder has been disappointing. My 1998 grand cherokee shifts more reasonably. I know its for MPG but its worst trans I have ever had.

The delayed downshift and gear "hunting" in cruise has been a common Toyota truck auto trans issue going way back to the 2005 five speed. This is a separate issue from hard shifts and delayed engagement. It was programmed this way to maximize gas mileage by keeping rpms low. Nice video! 2017 automatic SR5 4x4 V6 w/ tow package, 50k miles been west to east coast twice. No issues mechanically so far for me. Only issue have had was water leaking into headliner from rear cargo light, I suspected a bad gasket. Simple fix with silicon until I replace someday. As far as shifting goes it definitely likes to hunt for low rpms when changing cruising speed around town, and noticed some hard down shifting due to that tuning when I decelerated quickly to stop. Had to change my driving habits and really let the shifting do more work accelerating and decelerating. I will say it doesn’t shift as smooth as a lot of automatics I have driven such as some subarus. However this little truck runs like a dream off road and for me has just been a great vehicle. Nothing is perfect but this truck has been close to perfect for me. Hope this puts some other owners at ease. Peace.

Sounds like these are mostly small, stupid things that go wrong, but cause big problems. I feel like my 2007 GMC Canyon rivals the Tacoma for reliability. After 14yrs and 113k miles, it's had no mechanical issues and leaks no fluids at all. Not even any seepage. The 3rd brake light was leaking water around 40k miles. I replaced the cheap foam gasket myself. Took 5mins and cost less than $5. A sensor related to the emissions system was replaced somewhere around 50k miles under warranty. The ignition had an electrical issue at 70k miles. I don't recall the cost out of pocket. I really can't complain. Still runs like a top and they are known to go 200k-300k miles. To sweeten the pot, I bought it as a new leftover for $12,800 out the door. SL trim with the optional 5cyl. It's proving to be a fantastic value. I'm not sure the Tacoma can even beat that kind of value.

I sped off sams club one day turn to right off the parking lot and the truck was struggling like it was going to die, thank you I have an sr5 2021 v6 4x4 tacoma but besides this I was in mexico at 15000 miles and the truck started to over heat at about 35minutes at idle, has anyone had an issue like this?
@ICU812692 жыл бұрын
The sensors were not bad. The block casting had debris that would get lodged and not allow the sensor to read correctly. They just replaced them to make it look like a part issue but it was a casting debri that would block the sensor.
@Zahara_Adventures2 жыл бұрын
This sounds like what is happening to my truck. The surging at highway speeds up hill after an hour of driving, almost like a bad miss fire issue or poor fuel delivery at highway speeds under load but what may actually be happening is erratic reading of the crank sensor. Gonna have to pull the sensor out and clean it off and inspect the casing internals. Also seems like the cheaper fix rather than pulling the fuel tank to replace the pump which probably isn’t the issue.

I have a 2021 Toyota Tacoma TRD OR Automatic. If there's a vibration on accelerating from a stop in 1st gear and it goes away before shifting into 2nd gear, what might be the cause of this? I've researched this thoroughly and the only common issues are vibration at particular highway speeds but I haven't found anything with my particular problem. Please help!

The V6 automatic transmission sucks on the Tacoma always searching for gears. Other than that is a nice truck.

11k+ miles on my '21 TRD Off Road 4x4 v6. Only thing I have noticed so far is that the engine response under hard acceleration seems to be intermittent. Sometimes very responsive, other times it is less responsive than it should be. My previous truck was an '18 SR 4x4 2.7 which had a master cylinder and a TSS sensor recall which Toyota addressed.

Transmission tune on the automatics from the factory are pretty crappy. I find myself lifting off the throttle to force a shift pretty regularly. It “hunts” for gears. Aftermarket tunes seem to be the solution, “speed boost” looks like it gives you the most options for the price, with presets ranging from economic to race.

That blower motor had to be replaced on my 2017 Tacoma after about 18 months. The dealer did the fix at their expense. So I’m believing it was a recall.

2016 TRD 6 speed 0 issues @95k . The only complaints are if your man size you have to duck getting in or your head rubs the headliner causing it to show the foam at the door seal. Got 2 replaced under warranty playing dumb😉😉. The other issue is even with 4:30 gears the manuals have 0 low end torque, to the point if im on my 14 degree gravel road in 4H and come to a stop i have to go to 4L to start again. And yes I can drive a stick better than most.😁

My 2017 Tacoma makes a rattling noise when accelerating as if it is low on oil. My oil levels are correct and I have no leaks of any fluids. Note that I only hear the noise when I’m running my A/C. It’s not a continuous rattle noise just accelerating when going up an incline.

My 2019 TRD Pro cannot keep 70 mph on the highway, always kicks down after it loses 10 mph and then it kicks all the way down and my mpg’s drop from 18-19 down to 14.5-15 mpg and I lose 25-40 miles off a tank of gas…my Titan I traded in performed better and got much better mileage. The dealer says it is normal and nothing can be done. It also has a rough idle which the dealer says is normal.

I have 2016 with an issue with the ac, the ac light turn off after 3 seconds, i change relay, magnet cluch, speed censor and the amplifier control module and nothing, the computer has B1422 code and toyota dont find the error, the only piece that i dont change is the compressor itself, it possible that is the problem? Its too expensive to change just to try 😢
@mflynn45 Жыл бұрын
So weird! my 2016 Off Road, 4x4, all of a sudden just shut off. (green ac light went off and stays off). When I push the AC button on, I can hear it run then it shuts off, green ac light goes off. I checked the fuse and the replay, they are working properly. I had a friend come over and he said the compressor is running which is good news, however, he then assumed the refrigerant its empty so he was going to add freon but, his gage says the freon in full. That is where we are confused. Also its the 1234y NOT the usual 123A. Any insights? I want to sell this truck but I need to get this fixed first. We live in Florida. We do NOT have the $$ to have it serviced or even diagnosed at a local toyota dealership, they are way expensive.

My 2016 had the transmission hunting issue. 45 minutes at the dealer they reprogrammed the transmission never had a problem after that. Two issues I had was annoying dash rattle when it was new, the dealer fixed it under warranty. And the rear third brake light leaked, and my cab would get all wet. This was a recall.

Just bought a used 2017 sr5 v6 with 75kmi. On the test drive I noticed a leak, turned out to be power steering pump. Dlrship fixed it before purchasing. The. Drove it off the lot and discovered no AC.. appears to be the compressor clutch. Will find out in a day or so from sending this comment. So far the experience hasn't been so great.. for what it's worth . This truck also was built in Texas. One of the main reasons I bought this truck was the reliability.. I'm wondering if I bought a lemon.
