Absolutely no need to take the whole bumper off, great video tho I had no idea how to do till I watched this. But instead of taking the whole bumper off you can just do each side at a time, no need to take mud flaps off just take half the clips out working your way to the bumper

Not a lot of beginner DIY'ers are as able to take short cuts as veteran DIY'ers so we show the whole procedure from beginning to end. +Elias Saucedo

Makes me hate the pilot for over complicating the headlight

Thanks for the detailed video! Much appreciated! I just changed my daughter's headlights on a 2006 Pilot but did not have to remove the whole bumper, thank God. But again, thanks for showing us all the locations if we need to go all out.

Awesome video--why? Because it goes through the real life situation in working on an older car, when everything is not perfect---frozen screws, missing pieces, etc. What to do when things go wrong and how to work around it a key (missing) part of online videos. Thank you!

Boom, done. Without removing the bumper or front grill. Was able to use this video to see how the light is connected to the car. I was able to reach that back bolt from the wheel well by removing a couple plastic rivets and just reaching in with a wrench. Didn't have to remove the bumper at all. Had to jiggle the light a bit to get it out and reinsert the new one. And had to use some patience to remove that last Bolt basically blind.

So did you just loosen the splash guard and work from that side? Because taking all this off is ridiculous if you don't have to. Hope I can figure out the same.
@CalvinHikes6 жыл бұрын
6 months later hope you got it! Yeah I didn't remove the splash guard. Just separated it from the wheel well enough to reach my arm through. It took a lot of patience... since I have no line of sight. But I know that a lot of mechanical work requires bolting and unbolting things that you cannot see.

One thing I recommend is buying a bunch of those new plastic clips and replacing them When you reinstall. It’s best to order them and have them on hand before you do this job

So it takes 3 hours of work and tear down the frontend of the car just to replace the headlight???? Whoever designed that needs to be fired!

For Ridgeline go ahead and remove that crossbar under lamp. It's 2 - 10mm bolts and that Phillips screw shown. The removal of bracket will allow for bolt installation for lamp on drivers side around the cooler lines. Also makes it way easier to unstall.

If your bolts/screws aren't rusted and frozen in place.... You can simply remove the ones that these guys can't, hopefully, and then just leave the fender liners on etc. And remove the bumper cover like they show. Saves you from three phillips screws and thirteen clips on each side..giant time saver.

Only video I've seen that actually details where the fender tab on the headlight goes in relation to that bracket thing.

Hi. I was wondering what the labor estimate would be for this job. I am considering doing it myself but I did ask my mechanic about labor cost and I was told just over 2 hours in the book. I was surprised it as the long. Does that make sense to you?
@MikeR553 жыл бұрын
Yes, it takes about two hours to do it this way the first time. There are shortcuts though that will speed it up a bit.
@henrystowe62172 жыл бұрын
Yes. It's taking me way longer.

Thanks man. This is just what I needed to do this myself. Why you didn't took of those screws or bolt or pins? Do you think I should the same and bring all that with the bumper? That was a great job.

I replaced my 2007 Pilot headlight (Passenger side) a few yrs ago,did not recall that complicated. 3 screws, one of them is difficult to reach.

I was planning on replacing a really foggy headlight assembly on the passenger side, but if it's this complicated then I'll save my time and money.

A headlight restoration kit is a cheaper and easier way to fix yellowed and foggy headlights, assuming they are fine in every other way.

Got a better idea...trade the Honda Pilot in for a GMC Envoy...the whole headlight assembly comes out in, max, 30 seconds. So much for Japanese engineering.

And have my car die at 100K miles? No thanks, Pilot is at 215k miles right now and runs like a champ, she'll go to 250k no problem.
@JuanAvila-mb5yk4 жыл бұрын
250k miles, I'll take a Pilot any day of the week and twice on Sunday, the headlights are not a big deal for me anymore.

@@YepMhmm - Totally disagree. A Honda, or really any Japanese-made vehicle will run years after any GM product. There is a reason why Chevy is regularly ranked at the bottom of reliability rankings
