Thanks for this informative 'how to do' video. I have removed the front bumper on my 2006 A4 Avant Quattro 3.0 Diesel probably +4 times and still review the youtube videos to find the hidden/awkward screws!. To reply to all of the people who say it is not necessary to remove the bumper to change bulbs, not all A4's are the same. Audi decided to put different engines in these cars 1.8, 2.0, 3.0, 4.2 gasoline engines and 1.6, 2.0, 3.0 diesel engines (possibly more) So the smaller engines have more spare room (obviously!). My 3.0 diesel engine was shoe horned into place and leaves little room to do anything in the engine bay!. Audi also decided to design a weak xenon headlamp bulb system. Resulting in me changing the ballasts and bulbs 4 times in 8 years!. I have also changed the battery 4 times as it seems the electric system is possibly weak also! Positioning the battery underneath a grill at the base of the windscreen ensure the battery is soaked every time it rains, which also does not help the flickering xenons I am sure. I love the car, but it is certainly a love/hate relationship!

To replace turn signal bulb easier. Turn your wheel, and pull back the fender liner. You'll be able to reach up, and pull the turn signal bulb out.

Video was extremely helpful (as are all A-1 Auto videos). It would be very difficult to figure out how to remove the bumper without having the video. Since I was only replacing the driver side headlight, I only had to remove the hardware on one side of the bumper to access the headlight.

Read on people! Thank you to all of you that post comments! Remove TWO 10mm screws, slide the power steering reservoir over an inch, wedge you hand in there to release the low beam cover, unhook the cable, then the bulb latch, then replace the bulb. Reverse order.... put it back together. My 2005 A4 Avant is BACK IN ACTION! WHEW!

Do you have any tips for depressing the bulb latch (passenger side) while trying to remove the bulb without having the headlight assembly removed? I think that that's the part I'm stuck at for my 2006 A4 Quattro.

Great video. it provides great tips and it is professionally shot. I had to replace the middle bulb on the passenger side and instead of removing the bumper, removed the air filter unit, which gave me enough space to pull the bulb. It may be faster this way for this side.

Approximately how long should this take if you're looking at removing the front of the car, if I take this to a shop? An hour.... two hours? Thanks! Post-script... I just completed installation of a new bulb on the drivers' side, regular beam. Loosened the power steering reservoir to make more room for my hands, but the entire process took about 15 minutes all told. According to the shop I visited after buying the bulb (about $16 at a local shop), I could expect to pay approximately $200 for labor and tax. So I just saved myself a couple of hundred bucks.... Here's a tip I picked up and just used. The outer mounting bolts can be hard to reach but if you take a cheap flat-head screwdriver, you can easily reach the bolt with that and turn them (although it should be a T-30 torx). The shaft needs to be at least 6 inches and I had to grind the end of the driver a little to fit.

This process is easier if you only work one side at a time and do not fully remove the bumper. Remove the middle fasteners for the bumper, then only remove one side. Pull the bumper out enough to get clearance, change bulbs, then refasten all of the wheel well nuts and screws. Then repeat for the other side. The bumper stays in place and you don't have to disconnect things entirely or find a spot to rest the bumper on the ground without scratching it.

you don't have to pull the whole car apart to change the headlight bulb. take the cover off, pull the black plug( making sure you don't pull the wires) and I found the bulb pulls out too. if you have big hands like me it's a little uncomfortable but I manage to change the bulb in under 2 mins. the bulb just pushes back in place securely. I'm so glad I had a go at this myself and not payed an expensive mechanic to do it for me. just use some common sense folks

Yes, If you just need to replace the bulbs you should be able to reach behind the main beam to service them. We wanted to show our viewers how to remove the bulbs from the assembly.

This video is for replacing the headlights, the bumper has to come off for that. The bulbs were just an add on how to. No need to remove the bumper to change the bulbs. It may be easier if the headlights aren't screwed all the way down when installing the bumper back. Enjoy the audi diy lifestyle 🤠

Careful when removing bulbs and observe condition of wires inside housing first. Just did this recently on my '06 to find out that the wire insulation is flaking off and exposing bare copper as I removed bulb plugs. Had to use liquid wire insulation to resolve.

With all , and much due respect , I love your videos, they are all spot on so far. One MINOR exception, I just changed my driver's side headlight low beam bulb , it is too tight too just flip the door open and pull the bulb out, I ....at least had to un do the power steering fluid reservoir by removing two ten mm head bolts on the top of the bracket, and pull it up out of the grommet at bottom, and gently ease it out of the way, gaining access to the door and then bulb. Perhaps just as easy to remove headlight it's self and change out the turn signal bulb as well, with of course A1 auto parts.... Thanks... :-)

Yeah, it's absolutely hilarious to what degree some of these car manufacturers go to try and drown out the DIYers. I recommend anyone looking up simple maintenance videos on cars they might buy. If you have to put an hour into just replacing a simple light bulb, then move on to the next car. They engineer these cars like this in order to force buyers into getting screwed at dealerships/auto shops to get them done. There's no car that reliable where they don't need bulb replacements, oil changes, and so on, and they make these vehicles incredibly hard to work on as a DIYer.

Park in front of a garage door or something else flat that you can mark the position of the old beams then install the new bulbs and check that the beams are in the same place you marked with tape. I use painters tape and do not move the vehicle until the new bulbs are installed.

I know this sounds crazy but could I put two brand new Halogen housings (lights included) on my s4 to replace my HID's? the wiring inside of the housing I have is completely frayed and I'm having trouble locating the parts I need. The main plug looks the same purple on halogen and HID.

It's fully not as complicated as I feared: I can just reach in, remove the cap, and remove the bulb. If this is your car, watch the vid and look for what he points out right at the begining. Taking the bumper off and removing the whole light from the vehicle is not necessary

What the heck? Remove the bumper?? I have a 2005 Audi A4 1.8T and I don't have to remove the bumper! 4 to 6 hex screws from above in engine compartment (looking down) and the whole headlight fixture just slides out forward. Must be a model /year thing?

Its all Bullshit no 1 needs to open wholw car to change bulb. just open a little clip at the very back of light cover and change bulb easily. no needs to open any screw
