For just a door handle or lock cylinder there's no need to take the whole door apart like this or disassemble any of the wiring. Once the main door trim panel is out of the way, the inner door handle bolt is accessible through a conveniently placed hole near the rear edge and toward the top of the inner metal panel.

Exactly what I'm thinking. I've replaced outer door handled and lock cylinders on people's truck like you say in a matter of minutes without all this work. It can all be done with the large opening at the bottom of that metal panel he removed.

Man u just made that way more complicated than it needed to be! Absolutely no reason to remove the whole regulator assembly to do a lock cylinder. Can reach hand in and do everything in about 10 minutes.

Props for making video and I’ve work on cars for many years now and there is better way to do this without the window regulator need to be removed as well as all the wires … here’s TIP if you look and you see hole through regulator to that exterior handle that’s clue that it can be removed without rest the stuff… what you really need to remove was latch and unbolt the exterior handle then remove the pin and for pin you slide the pin that’s why there’s oval holes on it slide it half way for pin to clear the it fall out… i appreciate the clip regardless it’s still best information on how to video out here so I’m not knocking it down…… I’m sharing to add on as i have worked on cars all kind cars all this time and I’ve learn certain things only time will show you so yeah my knowledge on interchange are beyond computer i can find things on different model car to use it on car I’m working on and it’s not on any interchange at all this is the knowledge you gain after been in it for long enough to know how all parts are made and how they get to where they are now !!

The handle is difficult to remove and put back in the door because the rod pushes on it, the handle does not clear enough the top edge of the hole (the part from this video that is cut, when the handle is lastly removed or firstly put back). To make room, remove the three screws holding the lock mechanism and then it can be moved down, the handle will now be able to get out or into the hole easily. When the handle is put back inside the hole, put back the three screws of the locking mechanism and the handle still can move out from the bottom enough to be able to put back the locking rod into the lock cylinder, or push the cylinder back into the handle if it clips in place easily, otherwise the cylinder has to be put back before putting the handle in the door.

What is the part that is attached to the lock cylinder called? I just bought a 98 Chevy K1500 and whoever replaced the driver side door handle didn't hook it up right and the door won't unlock. I have to crawl through on the other side to unlock my driver side door. I took it out and it is missing the clip that is attached to the lock cylinder in the video above. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

It does not require even close to this much work. Take the door panel off and the 10mm inside bolt is accessible with the window up.

I almost never comment on these things - but I just got done doing this job and watched your video for the most important part - getting that door handle in and out. I see you are doing the job on a beat up truck - scratched faded paint. So your guy goes to remove the door handle ... wrestles with it. Then POOF - your edit has the door handle magically out. Nothing about the HARDEST part of this task - getting that effing, constantly failing, poorly designed GM POS door handle out of this era of truck. Your videos are usually better than this. I don't have a trick to offer - it is a beotch, there is no easy way - and getting this done on fresh paint - without a single scratch - well you guys are in the car business. Just how does one do it?

If you don't what to remove the regulater just drill out the rivits for the vent on the bottom. Gives you plenty of room to work. Just reattach with self tappers.

I put the rod on the handle (from the outside) first before I lay the handle in, and with lock cyl connected to it's rod but hanging in the door,,, with handle connected but loose, set the cylinder (already connected to the rod) started into it's slot (behind the main handle rod) inset the handle top side first then bottom... put the screws in and snap the lock cyl fully into place from the inside of the door. Don't have to do anything blind and no messing with the door jam mechanism at all.

Can u do one for a 2002 chevy tahoe. Someone broke into my truck using what looks like a screwdriver and hammer. Took my door apart and found it sitting in the bottom of my door with another small rod. I think it might be part of my alarm.

You didn't show cylinder installed into handle I had to leave my project sit half way through it for a few days & think I may have the arm that connects to rod facing wrong way. Got handle in but couldn't unlock door with the key. I could before I started. Thanks,

You failed to show us the struggle of getting the handle out and back in there! i can get my handle to open the door but the damn key wont turn the lock cylinder when i get the screws in! The space is too tight! Idk if my rod is bent or what... So frustrating
