Friendly tip to those who don’t know: Accepting a free meal as a guest is cool once MAYBE twice, but not every time. Even if it’s offered, you should pay :) The hospitality is a gesture of kindness towards travelers that dates back hundreds if not thousands of years. But someone is paying for the food - whether it’s the employee or the shop owner - the money comes from someone’s pocket. I am a Westerner myself but I like to use common sense be considerate of the fact that the money goes a long way in such poor countries. People need to take care of their families and stuff like that.

Every time I go out with my friends I’ll offer multiple times to pay but it’s probably not good to just keep accepting it without them reciprocating. Eventually you feel taken advantage of and stop offering. In our culture we offer but also the other person should offer as well eventually
@shabanrahman12033 жыл бұрын
@@onpurpose9719 It’s a cultural thing. Similar to in America how we have the saying “customers are always right.” In the middle east and Muslim countries, “guests are always welcome.” But it’s a balancing act. HAHAHA - this vlog was legendary. Those guys seemed like a fun bunch and Luke, you've had an authentic Pakistani cultural experience. That lady is what we'd refer to in Pakistan as of the third gender. I'm not sure what the "woke" way of putting it is, but growing up it'd been someone we'd have described as a cross dresser ir a transvestite. In Pakistan these people have a sad status in society and aren't always treated to well. They will often approach people and tease and banter as you experienced. The idea is that you have to give them some money for them to leave. It's considered bad luck to be rude towards them. It's wierd if you think about it, it's bad luck to be rude to them, it's considered a good thing to give them a bit of cash, but at the same time society marginalises them and they are not able to make a living in normal roles. Either way i thought it was hilarious, although i'm sure you were thinking otherwise when you got back to your hotel.
