Hello! Congrats for the channel, i learn a lot every day! Just waiting for the part 2 explanation! Btw, have one question.. is it normal i see my jigging bait working only shallow water? I always see it until about 7 meters (about 12 feets). More deeper bait desappear (my gain is on med-aut) and i using 77khz frequence. Tried to set gain to high (90%).. and i could see my bait working, but also i got too much interference on the deep screen (a lot of huge red spots).. its impractical.. So, its normal this sonar get my bait (vertical fishing) only a 12 feet ? Im afraid maybe my sonar have a inssue.. week signal.. dunno
@1Cast1Fish3 жыл бұрын
When vertical jigging and wanting to see your bait, there are always tradeoffs considering you are trying to watch a bait that may be 3" or so on a screen from over 12ft down in water. Water clarity can also have a huge impact on your success as well...dirty water it is much harder to see do to the increases needed in your gain, which will show more noise. Then again it is possible that your bait had drifted outside your transducers cone as well, which is easy to have happen with wind or current. I would guess your gear is working just fine, and judging by what you have already tried, you have a good idea what you are doing in your adjustments. I would stay with it and find the best balance, but it will likely be a compromise.

My guess is that in that mounting location, when the kayak moves (you paddle) it is causing turbulence in the water around the transducer. Also be sur ethe transducer is below the water line while paddling.

I may have missed it, but in case you did not cover it, how do you find the thremocline on the Striker 4 (no chirp)? Thanks, cool videoes, great job on all.
@1Cast1Fish3 жыл бұрын
I did not cover this topic yet, but I do get asked alot about it...so I need to discuss it in a video. You can see the thermocline with the Garmin Striker...however what a lot of don't realize is that in many lakes depending on the time of year and other variables a distinct thermocline may not actually be present. A thermocline generally will show up as a area of "noise" in a line somewhere within the water column across the fish finder screen (not top or bottom noise). The thing to remember is that since it will show up as a noise signature normally, you want to be careful about setting your noise removal setting to high, as it can remove the thermocline as well. Hope this helps

I've used my Striker 4 five times now. Is it safe to say when the fishfinder is in fish symbol mode there is only one size fish symbol? If so then the second option down with the bubbles would give me a large or small arch along with the fish symbol to indicate the size of the fish. In the pure fish symbol mode, which I tried, a four inch fish and a 24 inch fish have the same size fish symbol. Thanks, and thanks for the scroll speed info. I had mine on fast while trolling at 1.5 mph and my arches were very flat.
@browntrout6113 жыл бұрын
Okay, let me correct myself. There are different size pure fish symbols which I figured out by playing around on the simulator. On real water I was fooled into thinking all fish symbols were the same size because I was trolling shallow water(mostly 10 to 15 feet) with the 200khz, 15 degree setting which was too narrow and only showed me small creek chubs. I changed the settings to 77khz for a wider 45 degree angle in the 30 feet or less water that I troll in. I got it.

Another awesome video! Thank you! Any chance you could do a video on what it looks like to get false reads? I did a hull transducer mount on my Kayak following your instructions using duct seal. I get a good readout, and occasionally I get a break in the floor and it beeps and shows fish. It will do this for an extended amount of time, then go back to working normal. Would you suggest I remount it? Is this common? Any help or guidance is tremendously appreciated!
@1Cast1Fish3 жыл бұрын
By break in the floor do you mean it just loses the bottom? Like you see no bottom, but still see fish?
@garyworkman73173 жыл бұрын
@@1Cast1Fish Thanks for the reply! So it goes from a very clear read of depth (it’s pretty shallow usually around 4 to 5 feet, to constant beeps (fish) but the fish are showing up well below the depth line. It’s almost as if the floor just stops and it shows fish, hundreds of them, most sometimes at 15 to 20 feet below (this lake is 8 at it’s very deepest) Sometimes it snaps out of it and goes back to picking up the bottom, other times it goes back to normal after turning it off, then back on. I switched to clearvu and that was just black. It can’t possibly be fish, the way it reads, and this lake was drained about 10 years ago, so I’m certain there aren’t any deep holes with that sort of drop off with hundreds of fish! Water temp, GPS, and depth seem to be accurate, it’s just this weird occurrence. Transducer is in the sealed front hatch, but far back enough to always be below the waterline. Do you suggest I try and remount my transducer in the duct seal, before reaching out to Garmin? Curious if that’s what a bad read looks like. I’d really appreciate you insights, your videos are what led me to purchase this unit!
@1Cast1Fish3 жыл бұрын
@@garyworkman7317 Well it shouldn't be doing that, so the reading is messed up (due to something). I would definitely try remounting it to rule that out. Another thing would be do you have the fish ID on? maybe turn it off. Again if these don't work try a factory reset... and test it

How to know sand and coral????
@1Cast1Fish3 жыл бұрын
I don't have any coral, but sand shows up as a soft bottom....I assume coral should be like a hard bottom, but not 100% sure
