I just put a toggle switch in line on the radio wiring. Very simple. This post should help you out too. Good luck! rubbercitymotoring.com/impala-project/2015/6/10/6102015

That's the only downside I thought this would have is to turn the volume up higher using bluetooth,, going in thru the slave audio input is much better since the volume is matched to the radio, this is still a cool option
@RubberCityMotoring2 жыл бұрын
Agree - it's nice in theory and a super stealthy install. I was a fan until I went double din.

I wonder if that radio would work on my 92 caprice

I keep seeing reviews saying the sound quality on the bluetooth is horrible which completely defeats the entire purpose of the unit. Is this true or an exaggeration?
@RubberCityMotoring11 ай бұрын
It worked fine with me, volume was a little low, that’s about it.

Very nice! Im looking to get one of these for my 98 Tahoe cause I also love my factory radio but want to link my phone to it. I have one question though.... Can you use the seek buttons on the radio to switch songs in Bluetooth mode instead of using the phone?
@RubberCityMotoring Жыл бұрын
If I recall, none of the buttons worked. It just basically was like plugging into an aux / headphone port. After awhile I upgraded the car to double din.

Thanks for posting this, I also have a 96 impala, and only want the factory look but maybe rca jacks to the back as well. I like the stock radio thats in there now but (c.d.) option doesn't work. Do you know if they sell them with the Rca jacks as well as the aux or blue tooth. Thanks again and in advance for any responses.
@RubberCityMotoring9 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. I know they sell one with aux input up front, instead of Bluetooth. Not sure about the addition of rca though... Give them a call, very nice group to work with. They are the gurus of the sort of product you have in mind.

Thanks for the video. I'm looking at the same set up for a Suburban and was wondering how the system works in regard to answering your phone. Are you able to hear the phone ring when its paired but not in bluetooth listening mode. Also I didn't hear any mention of a bluetooth microphone, so I assume it would be almost like talking on speakerphone, but with the audio playing through the speakers (assuming bluetooth listening was enabled). Any info you could provide would be appreciated.

+David Dimond I have not had a phone call with this yet - It really just strictly is meant to stream audio. I'll have to try out a phone call....

i have a 1996 camaro and a pulled the factory radio. i just could not put up with crappy factory radio that will not support CD-r's or mp3's. the radio i put in was just something i had laying around probably a 7 year old kenwood. its plain, simple, and unlikely to be stolen but it supports MP3 playback with a USB port.
@RubberCityMotoring9 жыл бұрын
+andrew donohue Yea if you like aftermarket, then this isn't for you. I totally agree you can get a much cheaper, feature filled aftermarket radio. For me though, depending on the car, the oem unit looks more time period correct and fits the dash better. Especially with these 1.5 DINs. Thanks for watching!
@ad3569 жыл бұрын
well they do make din 1.5 aftermarket stereos but im too broke for that lol (any money i spend on the car goes into repairs and light mods my car ha 215k on it so allot of worn parts have been replaced). i could not deal with commercial radio content anymore its such crap. i drive the camaro 72 miles per day back and forth to work all summer long so i am in the car enough to get annoyed with the radio. i do understand the desire to keep it looking stock but the radios from that time period werent that great. my camaro has the factory bose system and it sounds much better with an aftermarket stereo.
@RubberCityMotoring9 жыл бұрын
+andrew donohue I totally understand the long drive and need for a reliable car with a good audio system. The one thing I like about this radio is that I can use the Sirius app or anything else through Bluetooth and not listen to commercials. In the spring I'm selling my '98 Camaro SS if you'd like to something with less miles :) thanks for watching my stuff!

Do you remember the color of the antenna wire or can you let me know how you did it I understand the toggle switch just need to know the rest thanks
@RubberCityMotoring6 жыл бұрын
Open this link - at the bottom of the page is a pic of the wiring harness. Just check that out. I basically just spliced the switch in line, and now the switch breaks or completes the circuit. With my current setup, I hardly ever use am/fm, so the antenna is almost always down. Best of luck! rubbercitymotoring.com/impala-project/2015/6/10/6102015

Hey I have a 95 impala ss im going to be buying the radio from one factory, my question is if you can please help me. Where do I install the switch to make the antenna go down and keep the radio on? What do I need to tap into? Your help is appreciated thank you and good video by the way!
@RubberCityMotoring6 жыл бұрын
I tapped into the antenna trigger wire in the main wiring harness. Just ran the switch to the little cubby below the light switch. I rarely use the am/fm radio so my antenna is down almost always.

I purchased this radio based on your video. How clean is your Bluetooth signal? Mine has a lot of noise when I play it through my iPhone. Almost sounds like a ground issue but it only happens when I use the Bluetooth. Radio and CD sound great.
@RubberCityMotoring8 жыл бұрын
Umm honestly I have found the volume has to be up pretty high, which is my only gripe. They were really easy to work with, so maybe give them a call and describe your issue.

Thanks to your video, I ordered it & installed it yesterday! Pretty cool stuff to keep the car looking original. My question to you is where did you buy the lighter socket to replace the old one ? Did you went to the dealer to get a original one or did you put a aftermarket? I would really appreciate it if you can help thanks !
@RubberCityMotoring8 жыл бұрын
Awesome! Surprisingly, I am going to be removing my 1Factory radio soon... Going with a full on double din conversion :) But the lighter socket - I worked with a guy who sells Impala parts on ebay. I just told him what I was looking for, he found it through GM Parts and I bought it from him. I swapped it out because my Dad has plugged in/unplugged his V1 about a million times from the outlet. It was a major pain to swap though, weird clips that didn't seem to want to undo, unless I missed some trick, it took me a minute. Swapped it out though and it is good to go. Stay tuned to follow along with this new interior project. -JT

Thats awsome man ! I had that ac leak problem which is common on the 96 and I took it to get fix. The guy ended up breaking my lower dash and just recent found a "like new" on ebay which cost me $500. So i saw your video and it was very helpful. Made me want to do little upgrades like the bluetooth radio, lighter socket, and fix my odometer before I put the lower dash back on because I dont want to take it again.
@RubberCityMotoring8 жыл бұрын
Yea this car is a pain for that stuff - once you are in there, you should just get it all done. I was in, did radio, lighter, odometer, antenna bypass switch and some small bulbs that burned out. Now I'm back to tearing it apart again... :) Super pumped though for this new setup from The DetailSS.

Can you send the link for the ebay guy ? Im going to a dealer here in Houston to see if they have one in stock, if not i can buy it from the ebay guy. I usually buy stuff for my car on ebay like Hamilton Chevrolet.
@RubberCityMotoring8 жыл бұрын
Went through Hamilton, your comment jogged my memory. Mike over there is who I was emailing, anyways, the part number is #11516142 - There are a bunch on ebay too. Just a simple metal tube looking thing, screws down from the back and has a small electrical connector on the back. Hope that helps!

Umm it was decent if I recall. Stock speakers, which aren’t great to begin with. I was happy, but then opted for double din :)
