Here in Australia, I use Penrite 20W-60 every 3000-5000km in my 1FZ-FE. She loves it.

We don’t get penrite here but that’s amazing! That’s quite a thick oil what sort of fuel economy is she giving h you?

I had my trans oil replaced at 350,000km because it was malfunctioning. After that it was perfect, like a new car. I recommend it.

Great video! I have an 80 series 1FZ, 100 series v8, and a 200 series v8. The 200 series gets the worst gas mileage out of all of them. The 80 series actually does the best out of all 3. They are all great trucks. Thanks for a great video, and sharing your experience!

Awesome!! I could agree with that actually, I’ve had the same experience comparing the 3 land cruiser generations in terms of fuel economy !

I have an 80 with the 1FZ-FE. It is a thirsty engine I guess around 18 mpg on a long motorway run, around town it definitely half that. It’s difficult to give real costing due to fluctuating fuel prices in the U.K. I get around 350 miles to a full tank if used on the motorway at motorway speeds (70mph). 5/30 is the correct oil which does need to be changed regularly but fully synthetic. I use Castrol Magnatec which seems to be very good. I find changing the ignition timing from factory to around 9 degrees and tire pressures of 40psi definitely helps performance and economy. Oh, I had to replace both cats. I chose cheaper ones off eBay and coincidentally these made a huge difference to performance, definitely beneficial albeit a bit noisier. So, figures, well roughly timed 0-60mph of just under 10 seconds on flat road. Not bad for the type of vehicle, its abilities and 27 years old with only regular servicing. Oh, it’s my daily driver.

Any 80 series was never made with frugality in perspective . Just keep it efficient and it runs great. i don't know how fast it is, have driven Gwagon, range rover p38 in Nairobi and they are fair not great.

Is this engine reliable? Looking at a 1992 land cruiser with 78k miles on it and trying to figure out what to expect
@MasaiGainz2 жыл бұрын
The 1FZFE is very dependable as long as it’s in good condition (not been butchered my sleezy mechanics). Strong engine with high torque and proper nice sound. Also pretty economical as gets better mileage than my 100 series v8 cruiser

I read the Toyota engineers designed this petrol engine to last 1 Million Klms to compete with the Nissan patrol so YES this engine is incredibly reliable.

Plus swap your automatic with 5 speed manual and 225/95/16 Dunlop tires. you will see how torquey and power improvements plus more fuel efficiency you will get. My experience with j80 goes back to 28 years with extreme desert driving. Stick to this game plans plus oil change every 5000km then it is forever machine.

I have 100 series v8 4.7 litre I get 5.5 km per litre put a 2000kg trailer on back drops just under 5 km per litre so that’s about right what you get if you thought you were going to get 10km per litre not gonna happen in any petrol landcruiser we also have a hiace 3 litre diesel and that averages 13 litres per hundred landcruiser 18 to 20 litres per hundred not a massive difference really
