She passed away 51 years ago. I was 6 months old. I'm glad I am able to hear her music, her talent and dedicated life to our Lord. I could ask myself why didn't I find her sooner in my early years of singing? but until now? in my 50's? (51).God really works in mysterious ways. This sister is already an inspiration to me. I just heard two songs and heard her for about 20 minutes talking about how to serve the lord and she has inspired me already.

Momma Mahalia hit the nail on the head! "If the Christian hypocrites turn from their wicked ways, the sinners will see..." You don't hear gospel singers talk like this. They're too busy pointing the fingers at the sinners instead of just living a correct life and lead by example. Even with the non-believers, she said they have a duty and that is to love fellow man. Ha-ya!

Many days I fall short in my walk and I get jealous of that feeling I know she has to have when shes singing, lol. Its a good jealousy, though! Oh to be in that place with God is how I strive daily. Just a closer walk with thee oh Lord! She hit the nail on the head about loving one another and loving God. It is impossible to say that I love God and I hate my co-worker. My grandmother played her albums all the time and I can see why- the woman was divinely sent by God to give us this beautiful music and minister to our souls. the original MJ- you are missed.

I've always been very fortunate. When I was growing up, my parents were poor and were working all the time. My mom found a woman to take care of the kids while they were working named Maudie Harris. Maudie was from New Orleans, and growing up, I heard about Mahalia Jackson, who Maudie loved, and Sam Cooke, and I didn't realize, until seeing this, how much Maudie and Mahailia seemed like sisters. There words, their views of the world, their belief in God, was so much alike, that when I see this, I feel as if I'm seeing Maudie. Being as young as I was, I never knew how close they were, I knew that Sam and his brothers, played with her sons, and they were over all the time, but all this makes me so fortunate to see our world, from this side - and to have grown up with it.

You dont even hear much gospel artists of today speak like this!! Why God had to take most of the real people who were bold for Christ??? She did not even have a higher education and had more common sense than some who we see here on television. She is right about people being hypocrites!! She sounds like my grandmother.

+Sharmain Spann OOOOOOOOOOH NO! It's still some around today don't fool yo self! With God being God He ALWAYS is going to have a remnant of people that are going to do His WILL and live for Him! Whether they be in the "spotlight" or not

Marquasious Gaines I agree!!!! There are some still around just not many. I like to see real and authentic people. She reminds me a lot of my grandmother. She believes in helping others now she has to be looked after now because of her getting older and closer to 90. I pray that God keeps her.

+Sharmain Spann I undestand and agree about people being real and authentic. I pray that the LORD would use me in music to help change things in music and the world on a global scale, because that is TRULY a desire in my heart I just want Him to get the glory out of my life with the gift of song and singing He's giving me. But YES! Her words REALLY touched and moved me in this interview. She had a VERY SPECIAL anointing for the work God had her to do on this earth while she was here. And I PRAY in the name of Jesus that God keeps and strengthens her in her body and that His will be done in and with her life. And that you may continue on with the legacy of your grandmother of showing love that you may have an even greater legacy of showing the LOVE OF CHRIST! Love you and God bless you! May God and His precious presence be and dwell with you forever. Wasn't intending to right all this but I feel this on my heart. Love you. God bless you. May His blessings overtake you.

e_sha spann I guess what Mahalia was saying is that each person has to be the change that he or she wants to see in the world. It begins from within.

Wow, this interview needs to be broadcast across America now in 2019. Sister Mahalia Jackson is speaking truth to power. "If you don't like it, don't shoot me in the head. I'll tell you to your face." "Trust in God. God will deliver us!" "God going to take care of it, baby" Hypocrites... I fear nothing, but God. God is able God is pure God loves us without us loving Him.

She’s got such a spiritual voice! One of those funeral voices. She could sing a rock in the ground and send it on to glory lol. BEAUTIFUL VOICE! 🙌🏾❤️
