In this episode we check out at 1JZ Subaru Legacy, and see how well does it drift! What kind of crazy man makes his life so difficult by swapping out an STI EJ25 and swapping in a 1JZ in his Subaru Legacy? A Pacific Northwest man lol! Welcome to Portland! While everyone else is off driving simple BMW and 350Z, this man is at home building his very own RWD Subie. That isn't a small task, as you have a lot of hurdles to jump through, from making the diff last during clutch kicks and burnouts, to putting in a useable transmission, keeping the front wheel bearings from falling apart, making the dash work with CAN BUS, and all the other crazy little things you have to do in one of these swaps!

@@renz1013 I see this content every day on Facebook. People get blamed because of pulling the handbrake to often. But this discussion is nonsense. This depends so much on car and track and own style🙄 and it absolutely has nothing to do with the OG japan style. Doing manjis and weight shift entries with a high HP and high torque drift race car is different you definitely want to work that handbrake 😂

As a Subaru BRZ driver, I do wish our cars had been built with a reliable Toyota engine. That being said, I’ve been learning how to drift at parc drift events and spirit peaks raceway Events (10 events so far Between the two) with no problems. I drive to the vent, and drive back home (2.5 hrs one way, 5 total, plus 3-5 sliding around) I’ve been connecting the transitions just fine, I just don’t have much experience to do it confidently. Not too shabby for being an completely stock Subbie.

I dc009 swapped my B5 s4 with an is300 diff. It has the biturbo 2.7 v6 originally. I blueprinted and balanced the OEM crank, titanium rods, billet 10.5:1 pistons, one off very aggressive camshafts built from scratch strictly for my application by my uncle who works as an engineer for NASA and has a 9 axis mill and lathe in his garage, titanium exhaust valves were a must with the cams as were 160 lb valve springs, i converted to a single gt55 with decked, ported, and copper gasketed 2.8 liter heads, coil on plug conversion, dry sump, haltech elite 2500, 1200cc injectors, e85, and believe it or not, without axles and with a super secret steering rack mod, cut knuckles, and kw coilovers the factory front suspension has more than enough angle and Ackerman while allowing 10°of caster to be competitive. She makes 620 wheel at 27 psi then the scramble button makes 707 but i use it sparingly because my engine internals are extremely expensive. The thing sounds so unbelievably amazing. It Has a similar tone to a cammed out turbo vr6. That falls in behind the performance of this car though. The b5 chassis is so incredibly rigid, the geometry is bar none, and with the cage and weight reduction my weight distribution is 52% front 48% rear, weighs 2890 with me in it, and handles like nothing ive ever experienced. The way the car digs and just claws itself forward while on power is unbelievable on a 295 tire. Literally if i feel like i drove too deep into a corner, i just mat the thing and let it eat while holding my scramble button and it always keeps me out of the dirt as long as my tire smoke is blowing towards whatever i DONT wanna hit. My e36 was way different, if you drove too deep, you better get off the power fast or sand trap bound you are. I love this dudes car though, I would have pieced together a gen2 coyote and had a 8,000 rpm dohc 600 hp ford v8 Subaru legacy with equal length rotary fire headers to flex on Tanners passat but that would have costed easily 10 times more. Badass ride tho bro for real, respect.

Not that there is much Subaru left in this car but that generation of Legacy has pretty great chassis and did pretty well in road racing. The models of Legacy after this generation went full fat American family car.

honoustly no matter how dumb or illogical a build seems, i always look at it in a mature way and this is a passion build, that the man did himself, and it's balanced to his liking and it drifts good from what i see.And don't forget he learned drifting on assetto and did his own wiring. That deserves a medal in my book whatever project car it ends up to be.So big props to the owner i would also build it again if i was him.At least it's not another generic build.👍👍👍✌️👉

Sorry bro but those things grenade with no mods... and the max you can get hp wise is 400hp before they grenade once again then you have to pay 10k to make 600hp just to grenade one last time. I'm sorry but in no world are they reliable or cost effective unless you're rich.

@@clutchkickpj693 as a subaru sti owner with 225000 miles on a stock unopened motor and drivetrain, reliability is there if you take care of the car. check/change oil regularly, don't redline it every second of the day and you're fine. Sure its no JZ engine but lets be honest, as far as "bulletproof" motors go very few stand up to the JZ. Most engines grenade when neglected or pushed with factory internals not rated for the power
