You’re right, although with me, I have difficulty getting excited about the new cars. I wish the manufacturers would steer clear (pun) of electric steering, offer manual transmissions and stop forcing turbos on us. Trump, Meloni, and soon, the AFD, in Germany will be ruling. They don’t care about us driving golf carts and eating bugs.

The 1M is such a cool, iconic car. Watching this made me think of how many new cars are actually 'cool' any more. It's hard to put your finger on why and I don't think I'm just being nostalgic, but there just aren't many new cars which have that aura about them... They're faster, more capable, more features... But just leave you (me) feeling a bit cold. Maybe because they're all very similar due to the regulations and maybe they're all just too perfect and don't have their own quirky personality. I don't know, maybe it's just me!

Think I’d take the 1M - I love the dash, it’s not over the top with buttons, you’ve got the stuff you want to access easily readil6 available. I’d do the same with the infotainment as you. Hi Tim, the size difference is due to the current 2-Series Coupé being based on the G20 3-Series platform, where as the other "2" derivatives are built on the smaller Mini Countryman platform. Your G82 was based on the original 1-Series pan, so it is naturally a much smaller vehicle.

I have an original M2 LCI and after having driven all derivatives of the car, I feel like it is the perfect blend between light weight / small / raw and more modern technology of them all, hence the purchase... But yet you very rarely see anyone with one its always the very original M2 or the M2 comp or like this comparison against the 1M. They are almost forgotten but are ever so slightly just perfect.

One of the things that i missed when going form my e81 123 to the f21 140 was the steering. Hydraulic R&P as opposed to Servotronic. I understand that modern cars need it for all the assistance settings, but imho it was a little to early on the F21. I also found the suspension in the e81 a lot more crashy compared to the F21 even in sport with the adaptive ride.

I have just collected my Brooklyn Grey M2 G87 and also have a 991.1 Carrera S. I feel the same about my cars as you do about those two. The M2 is a great daily driver but still feels special. The 991.1 is a more raw and playful car and not as refined as the M2 but love them both in different ways. Don't think I'll be selling any of them anytime soon.

When people question these purchases, they are in denial about whether they would act differently. The reason people like Shmee continue to purchase them is because firstly, they want the dopamine hit of a new car. We all love that. Second, they get access to great finance deals. Third, it’s for the benefit of their business, which means it’s likely not a personal purchase and can benefit from some cheeky accounting to offset the cost against other business expenses. If we could, we would. No bloody wonder he’s always smiling.
