Tim is a rare collector who actually uses his vehicles, he has spent years growing his collection and driving them all over the world, he has some very expensive cars that he's put more miles than probably anyone, like his Ford GT.
@captain_context999117 сағат бұрын
Such a myth that enthusiasts dont drive their cars. Obviously they do. But they are also very rich and therefore busy doing other stuff too.
@gpaje16 сағат бұрын
@@captain_context9991 Absolutely, in fact my post was to head off those who like to automatically comment he doesn't use his cars. One person specifically erased his comment already. I've been subscribed to Tim for many years, the guy uses his cars. Though there are a lot of collectors that aren't enthusiast, more investors.
@captain_context999116 сағат бұрын
@@gpaje And who are they? Manny Koshbin is one guy that really is not a "car guy" and also not really a KZbinr because he only uses expensive stuff to get attention to sell people a get-rich-fast-scheme. But other than that, I dont really know of any.
@gpaje16 сағат бұрын
@captain_context9991 I don't actually know a lot of KZbinrs, but in the field I work in, I do know a few rich people who collect cars, motorcycles and art, literally pack them away for years until market conditions say sell. Most recent is a client who sold a Ducati 916 with 0 miles still in the crate. The new owner paid a whole lot of money, not including the fact it would need a complete mechanical restoration for all the dried seals as he intended to actually use it.
@captain_context999116 сағат бұрын
@@gpaje Yeah cars and motorcycles dont like to just stand still. But that also doesnt sound very much like a car enthusiast then. Like people collect art... Because they can speculate in art increasing in value, but thats tax free and better than keeping money in the bank. But the expensive cars today, the collectors items worth millions, are probably the same cars that are gonna be worth multiple millions in a few decades. The best cars... Are already built. Its like classic watches... Nobody collects digital watches. And cars are going digital from here on.

Good for Tim having such a brilliant journey and cracking the code very early in this game of how to have a successful 'car collector' KZbin business. 'Personally', I'm not the biggest fan of social media driven collections. It's collecting for the purpose of analytics and buying cars based on a strategy for content rather than just making content about the cars you love. Likewise having to 'play the game' with certain manufacturers but that's the game, not specific to Tim and he's very good at it. He obviously loves cars regardless of all that stuff. I feel Tim always wants to say more about EV's and the fact they make literally no environmental sense or have any benefit for anything other than delivery vehicles and taxis. He's a numbers guy, so he knows... But you have to be careful how much you say working in the automotive space. As I say, good for him, he cracked the code. Great video, Ben. Probably the best Shmee walkaround I've seen. Appreciate you both.

Tim is major fan boying but try to keep a limit on it! It’s really ovis he is and was a major top gear fan like most of us men in the UK
@CerberusTenshi7 сағат бұрын
If he's a numbers guy, he would know that EVs make environmental sense over the lifetime of a car. If you are like most super popular car youtubers, that buy a new car every year, they don't make environmental sense, but guess what, neither do ICE cars. Or do you think the production of a new ICE car is clean? So your assumption is just plain BS. Does he prefer ICE cars? Definitely. But claiming he "knows the numbers" and therefore would go against EVs is stupid.

I’m sure Shmee is a nice guy, but there is something distinctly un humble about him in this video. I’m aware it is an interview format but I’ve seen Shmee interview billionaire car collectors, or Christian koenigsegg and he is, excuse the language, turbo brown nosing, and it feels like here is someone who is less wealthy and less powerful and he’s just in complete show off mode. All the anecdotes lead to him telling you how great he is “The amount of hours my dad spent trying to beat me on Sega Rally”. It’s all very “needless to say, I had the last laugh.” When you see Tavarish or Mat Armstrong, there is something in their behaviour that is respectfully deferential to Ben, who is still a household name and a national treasure. Shmee talks about knowing what viewers want, well Ben Collins viewers want that. I can’t be the only one who thought this can I?

I wish Shmees back wasnt broken. i feel he would do more racing and more daring of activities. His collection is nice but its just a car collection. nothing special really happens. Its hard to be original in this space but then again look at matt armstrong. Tim is too stuffy British but thats why he gets invited to all the factory nonsense. People want to see things that others arent doing. Like supercar ron. He will buy a rare F40 LM and go snow drifting. matt armstrong was a bmx rider and waiter but he pushed the envelope of what he could do and its fun to watch. What does Tim do thats original not mass produced polished sterile content. Tim cares more about numbers than cars.
