Some of the taxi drivers in Thailand are very bad. They didn’t send you to the destination that you want to go. I had that experiences twice, pretty bad that time at night. So a bit scared to go Thailand to take taxi

When you travel you have to be more mindful and you cannot act like how you are like in Singapore. This means no incessant vlogging along the streets being oblivious to your surroundings (a Singaporean couple got molested at Bandung Indonesia recently). Do not follow people into vehicles or accept a ridiculously cheap ride or transport which is too good to be true. When you travel, good habit to leave names or inform MFA. Also do research on the destination country and know where are the seedy areas and the current political and safety situation in that country. When you are at the destination country, make sure to always be in places where there is people. Do not wander out at wee hours of the morning. Do what you need to do in your holiday, do not linger unnecessarily. Look always around you and BEHIND you for any suspicious persons and be wary if you are followed.

Keyword here is desperate, and individual. Tourists that travel in groups are less likely to be kidnapped for such operations due to the potential trouble that comes out of the potential police intervention simply due to the amount of noise and backlash that will be generated. As a Malaysian I do travel to Spore but my wife always complain Spore are too expensive ( due to exchanges rate but is not the fault of Spore government but our government thou). I normally stay in normal hotel ( S200 to 250) which is consider cheap in Spore standard but when converted is quite expensive. So abit difficult for us Malaysian tourist but definitely a plus side for Malaysian to work in Spore. That why Thailand is popular.

If you are in Bangkok, there is no way they can drive you to Myanmar which is hundreds of km away. So, only visit places like Bangkok and don't play the stupid tourist by visiting some far flunk "exotic" places. Grab had a call for help feature. When the vehicle goes off track too far from the destination or the vehicle stopped for too long somewhere on the way, there will be alerts to ask you if there is any problem. Scammers usually get their victims who were desperately looking for well paid jobs by offering "too good to be job offers" and tell you it is somewhere near the border. Not easy to just kidnap some tourists on the streets of Bangkok which is too risky for these scam operators as there were no short of idiots who believed in these "too good to be true well paid job offers".

so, the victims got scammed at home, not in thailand (after responding to too-good-to-be-true-job-offer), went to thailand and get themselves taken away for hard-labor or whatever, by mainland chinese nationals who choose thailand as a base. by the way, thailand welcomed about 35-36 million tourists from all over the world last year. about 5 million were malaysian tourists, and about 1 million singaporeans. how many malaysians and singaporeans were being kidnapped while they were there as a tourist? or all or the majority of them got scammed at home first before entering thailand, and got themselves taken away? i suspect it’s the latter, which means the warning should be more about “don’t fall into the scam” than “don’t go to thailand”.

Keyword here is desperate, and individual. Tourists that travel in groups are less likely to be kidnapped for such operations due to the potential trouble that comes out of the potential police intervention simply due to the amount of noise and backlash that will be generated. Keyword here however is less likely, not impossible. Always be alert, Thailand is still not considered safe by any means - just not to the extent of that this video is alluding to.
