I have the same E.D.F unit, I have not tested the Thrust yet, but I measured Watts and ranged at 357 watts & 36 amps at full throttle. I was using a 3S 1300mah 50C battery. Beyond 60% throttle a 25C battery will struggle. I recommend 60+ C ratting battery. Forget about 4S. Good Video!

I'm prty sure you can go 4s with this all day long. I'm running a 4900kv outrunner, looks like the same motor as in this video. My 4900kv was meant for 3s and I was told by the seller that 4s would fry it. I've had over 70 trouble free flights on it with 4s. It is a 64mm edf that was originally a 4500kv set up. The 4900kv motor with 4s battery is 681.9 max watts and 45.74 amps. After a nice flight she comes down barely warm. The set up is producing 1400 grams thrust with a thrust tube, static, stock was 680 grams thrust. The mig 15 it's in weighs 720 grams with a 2200mah 4s onboard, performance is real good, verticle is it's playground(seems higher milliamp batterys also helps with demand on your pack and LVC issues). So its a 15$ motor, if it frys, it's not a giant loss. I'm guessing 4s would be nice applied here, for your needs.

@@mongoose4117 so did you use a bigger fan prop for this motor? Maybe this is why you did not fry it yet as it turns less rpms and if could and still saves itself from overturning and overheating? Obviously it could be a matter of luck this 70 tries mentioned. Or the manufacturer just gave us wide safe margin for the S number used to preveserve longer motor life.. and we could go even with 5S on it before it will burn out (?)

ESC cooling just add a small tube like based on the pitot tube design inside of the thrust tube which collects the air from the engine and from the engine which is transferred by a carbon fiber tube make sure the carbon fiber tube is not too big nor too small just enough the air to be collected. Air from the engine is used for cooling on the esc on your radio controlled airplane. Make sure that your engine has more thrust to improve the cooling of your esc.

The tube is not to increase thrust - but to improve its flow and to give you better speed ratio.

Anyway I say the same as you : kzbin.info/www/bejne/pJuacnmOjqlmb9E narrowing the output diameter of the tube will enable quicker take off at the expensive of top speed. I use a 70 mm world model EDF. It could lift a 670gm model vertically from static and draws a 32Amp from a 3S cells. For a 2Kg aircraft you probably need 90mm or bigger EDF or a twin 70mm EDF set up.

Thank you for your tests. But I don't understand why do you need this pipe. Because without your results are (25%,33g, 13,4W), (50%, 190g, 89,8W) and (100%, 390g, 254,6W). With this pipe your results are worst (25%, 74g, 33,6W), (50%, 172g, 90,1W) and (100%,343g, 239W). So the pipe reduce the capacity of the EDF. So why do you say the pipe bring better performance please?

It is a complex subject which I over simplified. Static thrust is only part of the story. By changing the length and diameter of the tube you can change the dynamic thrust so that a plane can perhaps accelerate faster but have a lower maximum speed or less thrust with a higher top speed. take a look here : www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?1150196-EDF-Thrust-Tubes&highlight=thrust+tube+program&perpage=20

I saw a video where this set up produces over 700 grams of thrust and the 4s 4300 kv unit produced over 900 grams and everyone that sells this advertised it as dynamically balanced from the factory and 770 grams on 3s. Way off what is claimed so either exaggeration has reached the point of ridiculous, 390 grams 770 grams 😂. Or maybe your batteries are weak not sure but somethings going on, great video though 👍🏼

The unit is supplied with a 2624 motor bit.ly/EDF50mm I guess you can replace it with the motor you have if it is similar in kv.

@@1nformatica Yes, I saw the data of the electric motor from the seller. But this is the data of the stator and rotor. A landing motor extension is clearly smaller in diameter. I would like to know the diameter for sure from the owner, not the seller. Or is the diameter of the seat 26 mm?

Is this 11blades fan? I got that and on 3s 25C lipo it only produces 450grams of thrust and it is far from states 900grams by the seller. Is it battery? Also I know it says 3s max but I feel tempted to use 4S od 95C on if so it can show its full potential. Also - what model weight (starting mass) do you think it coils work best for acrobatic jet flyer or scaled model od modern jet. Accordingly for single and then for double motor units.

Yes it is 11 blades as it says in the video title!! Seller / manufacturer thrust estimates are normally exaggerated. My figure for this unit at 100% was 390g @ 255 Watts. @@1nformatica 12 bladed fans of this size (50mm) and on 3 or 4S have thrust advertised over 1000g on full power. May the C rating on the battery have an impact on the maximum thrust together with one more blade? And do you think this unit we own could still go on 4S + 40amp ESC combo or it will instantly fry the motor out?

@@theartofflying3108 I never believe advertising claims. For batteries I check the internal resistance, my best EDF packs are around 3 -5 milliohms per cell. If you try 4S you can always start at low power but keep in mind it will spin at RPM's in excess of what it was designed for and there is a real danger of the thing disintegrating. Your part and full throttle tests on a static dyno dont translate into the plane the same way. Once you add in intake air velocity the amperage and thrust values can change a lot thoughout the throttle spectrum.

Static tests may not translate on to a plane directly but I think they are still valuable. They give a baseline to be able to compare different setups and make measurements that would not be possible to do in flight.

@@1nformatica Actually to take these measurements in flight you would only need the EDF to have a MM or two of play within a slider mech, a spring of known tension, and a potentiometer to measure displacement. Its possible to calibrate a built in dyno and record data from it into a raspberry Pi. You could even graph the thrust along with airspeed and throttle input in 3d form

One of the cause of inefficiency of EDF is the design of FAN BLADES and the ROTOR TIP BLADE Gap to the DUCTED WALL.as we observe all or lot of EDF has a small diameter fan blades. Those fan blades will not give u a full potential power of your motor unless your ELECTRIC MOTOR is underpowered.
