Great content. The responsibilities for the defensive front on a trap play vs an option play are quite a bit different so getting the defense to play the option while running a trap block scheme really gives you an advantage. That a lot of conflict and it allows the option game to open up to

Lamar has changed the NFL QB run game forever. Before Lamar, most defensives would force a keep read and then get a hit on the QB. Make him pay the toll for the carry. It’s amazing that after 5 years teams are still playing the option with Lamar by forcing a give at all costs because they don’t want the ball on his hands. Side note: for those wondering, in highschool ball, some strategies are to force a pull and pitch (if triple/ver option) and try to extend the time of the play as long as possible so the backers can flow over the top. Depends on where your athletes are on the field. Just the point, forcing a give read isn’t the only way to play the option

Also, trap option makes it almost impossible for teams to attack Henry and scrap exchange. Really puts defense in a bind, and slows the ilb progression.

Not really. Opponents have access to the same film and every single coach and coach's intern on that team gets paid to dissect every play they can.
