Tim, nice job on the punch sir! I'm new to forging myself and I am looking forward to trying out making some tools of my own. One thing I did notice though is that your hammer is looking mighty used up. Looks like you need to dress it up some.
@sjtaylor1285 жыл бұрын
Very Nice! Since I was recently a beginner I identified a couple things you might consider touching on in more detail. The first is how you avoided fish lipping on the end of your taper. The second is your choice of hand hammer. The first thing I noticed was the mushroomed hammer face. Let me know if you would like a hand forged Brazeal style hand hammer. I’d be glad to forge you one if you promise to use it in a couple of your videos. Again, nice job. Looking forward to more.
@TimothyDyck5 жыл бұрын
Thanks man! I briefly talk about this hammer in my video titled Architectural fence build part 2. It’s basically just worn into how I swing my hammer. Quick tips for keeping fish lips away is keep the material hot and really use forceful blows while drawing down the tip. Hope it helps some. 😊

Just curious. I’m a newbie to the blacksmithing and have been making some tools. I just made a 3/4” coil spring hole punch and just the forging part took me about 2 hours. Just for comparison how long did just the forging process take you to do this? I enjoy your Canadian made video’s. 🇨🇦

Good video, and although the content was nice and I appreciate your time, it lacked your personality, and that's what sets you apart from the rest as well as what drew me to your channel. Those that will follow you for the long haul watch you for you, not just the hammer hitting steel.

I wonder how someone so quick and efficient at the powerhammer can be that anxious with a handhammer. I also think your hardening hardly hardened it. but anyways i very much like your other vids and your energy, keep up the good work!

I think he only hardened the very tip and thats it. I kind or wondered that too. Actually re-watched it.

Thanks guys. I didn’t go into detail on the hardening if you want more insight into what’s going on check out my video where I make a chisel out of a coil spring. I went into a bit more detail in that video! Thanks.

Anxious? How is he 'anxious' with a hand hammer? Great work Tim, is that a mild steel hammer? I've been meaning to make one myself for driving drifts and such. Great video.
@TimothyDyck5 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Its actually not mild steel hammer, however I do use one a mild steel hammer a ton for driving drifts and such... I actually made a video of me making that soft hammer. The one heat hammer. Cheers!
@8gmm85 жыл бұрын
I mean one could forge out the taper a lot quicker using a bigger hammer and the right techniques. Here it looks like hes sneaking towards it, not very “give it beans“. I didnt mean to offend someone..

Timothy Dyck i know a few other small creators, just like you: great content a lot of videos and really active but just like you they don’t get what they deserve(talking about followers) I talked with them but we couldn’t figure out what the problem is.Other people just upload one video that skyrockets. Take my channel for example I just uploaded one crappy video and got 1200 followers and 166k views from it, but I absolutely don’t know what I did. There were a few days in which my Video gained like 20k views a day.

I missed your typical narrative. No biggie just a bit taken aback. I know it’s your favorite hammer, but what’s with the mushroomed head? It is apparently a bit on the soft side? I make lots of ‘em and never saw this. In your case it may be a desired trait? Seeking wisdom not being an ass.
