Thanks for this video! In loving memory of my grandfather, Andrew Meacham Rankin who as an Argyll and Sutherland highlander, fought the Boers at Magersfontein( in his kilt!) in 1900 , settled in South Africa thereafter, joining the Union Defence Force in 1914, succumbing to wounds received whilst in combat , at Delville Wood on the Somme, in March 1916. His wife and widow, my Grandma, said of him, "he was a fine Scot!". "Ever loved"

I've said it before, and i'll keep repeating it: brass bands do not belong in Highland regiments. All we want are pipes and drums

One day Scotland will have her freedom. My wish is we get our regiments back, under their old names, battalion strength, but to form the base of the Scottish Army. a dream but just sometimes dreams come true.

Why did they play a quick march to the slow troop
@nicholasberry9908

Because they can. There’s nothing saying a march can’t be played in slow and quick time. All to do with beat of that bass.

Nae disrespect intended to either Argyll, Sutherland or Fiji. The utter disrespect comes from the uk government who are filling up the numbers in this regiment using...what amounts to mercenaries from islands 12,000 miles away from Scotland. The disrespect again comes from the uk government who disbanded this regiment...twice. The first time by amalgamating them into the so-called royal regiment of Scotland, and then disbanding them again to a company strength so as to guard the royal households in Scotland. Soooo...do not speak to me about disrespect again Argyll1854...save your poisonous vitriol for for the 'cnuts'...as you put it...who so massively broke the back and took the piss out of ASH...and reduced them from being a good infantry regiment to little more than a Group4 security team.

The problem isn't that the nasty old civilian government has been gutting the Scottish regiments to save money; it's that not enough Scots are volunteering to join them. A disproportionately high number of infantry battalions are Scottish, a political decision made at the expense of the English, Welsh and Irish regiments (who were hit even harder by cutbacks and amalgamations - ie, just look at the complicated lineage of any single battalion of The Rifles). Even with the diversion of Fijian and other foreign recruits to the Scottish regiments, they are still some of the most undermanned units in the Army. Filling up the numbers using "mercenaries from islands 12,000 miles away" is the only thing keeping the Scottish units from being amalgamated or disbanded further. Either accept your brown recruits without complaint, or start pushing for further disbandment/amalgamation; you can't have it both ways.
@paddy864
@paddy864 6 жыл бұрын
Agree wholeheartedly with your post, the Jocks have only themselves to blame I'm afraid, (and they had dug their heels in for far too long anyway) Regarding The Rifles though, actually, with the exception of 1Rifles the antecedents of the other Battalions, 2 & 4 in particular, are relatively clear and identifiable. In fact you can clearly trace 2 Rifles back to 2RGJ / 2GJ and the KRRC. Ditto 4 Rifles to 3RGJ/3GJ and The Rifle Brigade. 3 & 5 are a little more complicated of course but not much. 1Rifles of course, are a complete smorgasbord, good luck with that!

The British army has relied on foreign and commonwealth soldiers for centuries just look at the brigade of ghurkas. As has been pointed out what happened to the argylls could have happened to any Scottish infantry regt this was down to poor recruitment numbers

@@rethguals And why do you think Scots do not want to join up ? Simple we are being used not to defend this country but to fight and die in Illegal unnecessary wars to further a Westminster agenda that involves only filling the pockets of the already obscenely rich. And to add insult to injury when our boys and girls come home crippled in mind and body they are abandoned by the government that sent them in harms way in the first place Witness Iraq prosecutions , N.Ireland historical prosecutions .... Why would anyone want to sign up for that ?
