Hello, you should go to Covilhã by train, the trains are slightly better and the view is astonishing, especially between Abrantes and Rodão. The 300 km trip, takes 4 hours, though

Nice video. Small correction though, that train arrived from Evora, after the "shunting" operation in which they "reverse" the loco, it goes back to Evora. More precisely, that train arrived at 8:36 AM or close to it if no major delays happened that day

It is an regional as its priced, but the reason its called an intercity its bcs the intercity train used to go directly from lisbon to Évora but since the eletrification stops at casa branca, they change trains, yet ye tecnically its an regional

The 'Lisboa Oriente' train station is not everyone liking, I find the platform protecting ceiling too high to give the required protection to weather elements. Aesthetics should not overcome functionality. The old trains and train stations are a must, I hope they never lose their personality when modernization eventually occurs.

Many train stations are in a miserable state all over Portugal, specially in Lisbon where graffitis are everywhere, the trains are also vandalized with grafitti (as shown in the video) and the railways tracks are full of empty bottles and trash. I really can't understand how it's possible to have stations like this in Portugal and don't be ashamed.

Great video. It's not everyday we see videos from Portugal, so thank you for that. Specially videos that are so thorough and informative as this one, with lots of detail about rolling stock, stations and lines. You have earned a subscriber! Now, it has to be said that the pronunciation of place names was atrocious haha. If you consider improving this aspect here's an easy tip - just use Google Translator, after you type the text hit the audio/listen button, the automated voice is usually on point with pronounciation (I have tested Portuguese town names). I know that they now look dated as you said, but I'm also a big fan of the aesthetic of Budd stainless steel cars. I welcome new modern rolling stock, I don't dislike new designs, and function is above aesthetic in my opinion. But will be slightly sad when all those go. Speaking of which, this is one of those trips that show that Portuguese railways are longing for updates in infrastructure and rolling stock. They are coming, but very slowly. The electrification of the line to Beja has been proposed, but it's waiting in line behind other priority investments.

Hi and thank you so much for your detailed comment! It's much appreciated! :-) I believe you'll enjoy some of the next videos, then, for I will be posting a few about train travel in Portugal. Is there anything in particular that you would like to see? I'm always open to suggestions and, as far as possible, I will accommodate them. Regarding the pronunciation, well... I'll do my best! As for the Budd/Sorefame cars, I was surprised to feel such nice rolling quality, even considering that they were fitted with Y32 bogies in the 1990s. They are no German ICE (particularly ICE 1 or 3), of course, but the rolling quality is quite good and that is a plus. Further, the interiors are very beautiful. What this means is that the barebones of the product are good. It's a matter, now, of just updating the interiors and bringing them up to current standards. Little things like foot rests, coat hooks, USB ports, some recline in the seats and little others make a world of difference and improve the service a lot at a relatively low cost. And then, of course, the bar. I can understand that with so few passengers, CP may be reluctant to pay for someone to provide bar service and that the service itself probably operates at a loss. However, in terms of brand consistency, it would make sense to have it open. Thank you very much for your comment!

@@worldwide.p glad to read that! With such a small network and with 2 lines currently closed for works that isn't a lot left to suggest. I'm assuming you're going to cover Porto's suburban network too like you did for Lisbon. I guess an interesting addition would be Linha do Vouga, the only narrow-gauge still operating in Portugal with some old Sorefame DMUs, it's within reach of Porto's suburban trains. For your own enjoyment I would ride Linha do Douro, Portugal's most scenic line. The interregional trains from Porto to Pocinho usually consist of a combination of old Sorefame and Schindler cars, the later really stand out with nostalgic look and red livery. Also worth riding the rebuilt Arco cars bought from Spain, they have an interesting story having been recently modernised, so the interior should contrast with the old Sorefame. They're technically the most "modern" cars in use right now. If I remember correctly they are being used in the Interregional from Figueira da Foz to Valença. If you're interested in branching out the topic there's a couple of little spoken gems: The funnicular at Bom Jesus in Braga, the Nazaré funicular, and the tram between Sintra and Praia das Maçãs. Railways aside, these are all places worth visiting if you're exploring the country. Regarding the bar, CP had an external company hired to run the bars, but they went bankrupt so there have been some issues in the last year or two. I'm not sure what's going on at the moment, nor if that's the reason here or this route was just unprofitable for a catering employee, even if you ride to Evora it's not a very long journey. But at least vending machines would have been nice.

Thank you so much for your suggestions! The Douro line will be featured very soon. That one is a must for Portuguese railway videos, especially nowadays with the Class 1400s and the Schindler cars. As for the Vouga and the Oporto commuters, that is a work in progress. Yes, they will be featured sometime in the future but not right now. I am waiting for the portion of the Vouga line being currently rebuilt to reopen and then I'll spend some time in the area making a few videos. So, those will be unveiled probably sometime in 2025, I believe. The Arco coaches are something which I haven't remembered so far and I thank you for the idea. A video on them can connect with some ideas that I have for videos in Spain as well. Thank you for the info on the bar situation and for your very detailed and informative comment! :-)

@@SouthPeter98 I'll take that into consideration. The issue with using my own voice is that I speak slowly and that would probably make viewers fall asleep in the first 30 seconds. Not exactly the best for a 15 minutes video! Further down the line I'll probably make a video using my own voice, evaluate viewers' reception and see how it goes. One other option is to synthesize my own voice. However, I believe it would have the same problems as using an AI generator. Making the videos with subtitles alone isn't the best idea, as well. As usual, I thank you for the feedback! Keep in touch!
