Professional musicians vs hardworking HS kids isn’t any question who comes out on top. One of the major functions of the service bands is served well by giving kids an experience they won’t forget as well as an introduction to the professionalism of our great military. Experiences like this are an outreach intended to put the thought of/strengthen the idea of future military service.

Of course the Marines sound better, that's is their job. They are literally in the Marine Corps to play an instrument
@joshpierce2328 жыл бұрын
+Sharkbait Actually not true. They are infantry first. Playing with the band is just a "B" Billet which can be recalled so they can deploy with the grunts
@RexFairchild8 жыл бұрын
+Josh Pierce The real Marine band has civilians. I believe theyre appointed sergeants but dont have the crossed rifles.
@joshpierce2328 жыл бұрын
In my entire time in I never once saw a civilian in our uniform. Band is a B-billet which means they have to have a primary MOS which you can't have as a civilian
@rssevsncoic23588 жыл бұрын
+Josh Pierce actually you are both somewhat right/ wrong. we have 10 Marine Corps Bands. Being a Bandsmembr is a full time job and their Primary MOS. NOT A B-Billet! (B-billets are Drill Instructor, Recruiter SOI, and MSG) +A3IOWN3DU- what you are talking about is the Marine Corps Presidents Own- it is Part of the Marine Corps, however they do not go through Recruit training, so they do not wear crossed rifles on their rank/ insignia. And are not True Marines Instead they have a harp in the center of their insignia. They enter the Marine Corps at the Pay grade of a SSgt or E-6.
@danielwatts73756 жыл бұрын
Josh Pierce Band isn't a B billet in the Corps. It's a primary MOS. It's not like recruiting or drill instructor duty. If you join the Marines to be in the band, that's what you'll do during your enlistment. That said, those Marines are those same high school kids with years of full time band practice and performance under their belt. Semper Fi.

Saw the Marine Corp maching band play in pouring rain, as you can imagine, numerous other bands marrched on that same field, and in pouring rain. The Marines were wearing white pants, but the only mud on those whute pants, were about two inches high on both inside legs. Not a speck of mud, anywhere else. How, is that even possible? But like every Marine, they're steps always match, and they're perfection body, mind, and soul! Oh yes each military branch has their bands, but they were super heroes. If i remember right, white pants and red or blue coats. And their hats, it was like looking a 1,000 miles into the distance, and their hats were perfect also! 😉

The HS definitely wasn't bad, but ultimately a touch sloppy in comparison. This video is from 2014, so if they stuck to it, I can promise they're amazing these days. Man, drum lines always gets my blood pumping. As a guitarist myself, there's nothing cooler than a super well put together rhythm section. Leave it to talented percussionists and bassists to make a song actually worth listening to. I adore drum lines so damn much, and appreciate every single person who commits to it.

Although it's old school and we have better ways to communicate, those Marines would hold steady and march through hell if it meant completing the mission armed with only their drumsticks. There's an acronym we learn in Bootcamp called SMEAC also called the 5 Paragraph Order, Situation, Mission, Execution, Administration & Logistics, Command & Signal. If all else failed or an EMP took out communications, it would be up to the band to relay orders to the field. Most of this is done through bugle call but you can't underestimate the drumline and how it keeps order on and off the field. It's a core piece of any Marine Corps graduation. Semper Fi!
