The oldest rap song recorded was actually from 1937. It's another song by the Jubalaires/Golden Gate Quartet Jubilaires/Golden Gate Quartet - The Preacher and the Bear

There might be an oldest recorded "rap." I mean the arm bone connected to the wrist bone or however it goes to be considered a rap so it's completely subjective. The Psalms of the Bible and the Quran were recited in a speaking and singing combination. I think it's easier for people to remember words if it's through some sort of Melody or what we would call a track. But this is been happening for all of recorded history. Like I said King David and the Psalms along with the Quran were spoken word. Only reason they weren't recorded is because there was no way to record them electronically but they're recorded on paper.

Nope. I have a record of Louis Armstrong and his wife Lil Hardin rapping in 1928. And even that one probably wasn't he first. Search KZbin for 'That's When I'll Come Back To You', by Louis Armstrong and his Hot Five, 1928.

Not everything vocal style is rap. Rap is just a offshoot of hundreds and hundreds of years of people vocalizing storytelling and harmonizing. Until very recently there was so much music in our everyday life. Pianos were everywhere and people sang together to entertain themselves.

The Quran was originally sung. Psalms of the Bible were apparently also sung. I can remember words that include a Melody quicker than just reading. 💯🙏👍

Almost all music is written rhyme over "a beat" so if you're looking for the first (by your definition) rap, you're gonna have to go back a few thousand years.

my grandad used to tell me fairytale stories in rhymes and he allways had a sort of cadence and swing to it.... allmost like something between spoken word and rapping when I think back on it.... As a kid I just thought it was magical.... later on I learned that he actually spent quite some time preparing and rehersing the stories he told me and he did it just because he loved how focused and attentive I was when he did so... He was a banker but also preached at the local baptist church wich he helped build with his own hands in his youth. He had skills with both his hands, words and numbers. Incerdible man! He died way too early ehn I was a young teen and he aged 65. I still miss running to his house and showing my drawings. Years after his death I allways felt like something was missing everytime I finished a drawing. He got so exited when I came running. He really did his best to make my childhood magical. I'll forever be gratefull for that! P.s. My grandmom is now 92 and still living alone and taking care of herself. She never remarried or had any new love. She allways said grandad was her man and she got enough love to last her a looong life... I try to be there for her as much as i can just to repay what my grandad did for me. That generation is hardcore and big hearted like few ppl today!

Rap is storytelling, and not all raps have to rhyme. Maybe more rhythmically delivered. So theoretically rap has been around for centuries… But - if your saying is this THE first recorded rap song, I’d guess there may be examples that are even earlier than this - it’s just finding them 🤷‍♂️

Not sure I'd, personally, call it rap, but music is ofc subjective. However, if you would class rhyming to a beat as rap, you could go as far back as medieval European bards; Walter of Bibbesworth, from the 13th century made a tune that became popular to teach children how to dress, here's an excerpt : "Put your belt around your waist, Then make sure the end is placed Through the buckle till the pin Holds the belt-end safely in." Then you have Christmas carols, here's an excerpt from an early 16th century one : "If that he say he cannot sing, Some other sport then let him bring, That it may please at this feasting, For now is the time of Christmas!" Obviously, before medieval examples, the English wouldn't be recognisable as much to us today, and before that there wasn't English, as we know it, so it's hard for us to see the Rhymes, but it's said Sumerians had a lot of rhyming chants that were used for all sorts of things, and they were one of the first known civilisations (4100-1750 BC) Either way, love this tune, and a lot of their other stuff too. Great reaction as always BP. Respect man 👊

Talking during music to a beat is something that’s been going on as long as music has been around. Folk songs often use this technique in many different cultures. Nobody can claim it. This obsession people have of claiming things that really don’t want them or anyone else reeks of sad desperation.

Falco was the first white Rapper worldwide. In the United States, where the original version of “Der Kommissar” barely dented the Hot 100. 1982 the song was played particularly often in New York clubs by hip-hop DJ Afrika Bambaataa. Falco would accomplish the same historic feat four years later, when “Rock Me Amadeus,” a German-language tribute to that other famous Austrian, shot all the way to #1 on the Billboard pop charts in the spring of 1986. And what exactly was Falco’s history-making achievement? Well, not only did “Rock Me Amadeus” make him the first Austrian to top the U.S. pop charts, but it also earned Falco the unlikely distinction of scoring the first American #1 pop hit by a male rap artist. Yes, that’s right-it wasn’t Doug E. Fresh or Kool Moe Dee or Kurtis Blow or Run-D.M.C. but an Austrian in a powdered wig who first brought hip hop-of a sort-to the top of the pops. And also his is song "Rock Me Amadeus" was the only German-language song to top the US Billboard charts until today.

One might argue that Lead Belly's Black Betty was an early form of rap than this. It came out in 1939. Another early song that has rap like qualities is Joshua Fit the Battle of Jericho from 1950. Also, check out the song "rock island" from The Music Man from 1958. Some claim that is an early version of rap as well, but came from a white guy from Iowa.
