M.I.L.K was a real unfortunate case. That was during SM's "black" period where the agency's own survival was in question (I know, difficult to imagine it now). Their debut track was a mild success. However, the group's days were numbered when one of the members wanted to break out as a solo and caused them to eventually split up. Personally, M.I.L.K's second single "Crystal" was absolutely terrific. It had a BoA-esque sound and mid-to-late S.E.S. concept. If you look at their video (kzbin.info/www/bejne/g3rSd36Ge9N0lZo) you can even see glimpses of Kwangya and futuristic themes. Sadly, their 1st album that had "Come to Me", "Crystal", and the ballad "Sad Letter" was their first and only album.

hi fifi, so glad you reacted to first-gen SM artists and to H.O.T. in particular. for background on why there are a bunch of kids in the song. this song is a response to a fire that happened that resulted in the death of kindergarten students. the kids were locked in their dorm rooms by their teachers and weren't able to escape and died in their rooms. the teachers that locked the rooms weren't at the center at the time of the fire, I believe. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sealand_Youth_Training_Center_Fire it was the Sealand Youth Training Center Fire where a dorm room at an education camp went in flames. 19 kids and 4 adults were killed this song is basically bashing negligent adults and saying, "who gave you permission to extinguish the lights of these kids?" this song was so impactful that it sparked a huge social awareness campaign regarding safety regulations Also, the concept/styling was inspired by first-generation J-rock

Sugar, M.I.L.K , and Shinvi were all girl groups under sm sublabels btw, however M.I.L.K was promoted with SM a LOT while they were active (they were in their smtwon summer and winter songs and h.o.t heejun actually wrote thier other hit crystal) Officially , SMs girl groups before girls generation have been S.E.S, Isak and Jiyeon and The Grace! (Who's leader is actually Jiyeon with solo artist Dana who was actually in the angel eyes mv!!)

I am big fan of H.O.T. They are really have many great songs with great message and they often mixed the Classical, Rock and Hip Hop in their music. But sadly many of new Kpop fans dont know about them except they are the 1st of Kpop idol who started the idol system in SK. For the song I Yah is talk about the children's right that often trampled by the adults, based on the fire accident that killed the kindergarten students that time and the one who responsible for it just walk away without punishment. This song is crritics to government who just ignore the law that been made. I watched their live stage before years ago, they put the pics of the chidren who died in that fire accidents and their funerals with their parents cried by holding their pics. One of brave movement by them. If you have a time, please watch their live performance of I yah in 1999 concert, where they performed this song with full classical orchestra x rock band. That was really awesome, the classical x rock performance brought the song to the new level. And if you like the rock songs, you might love H.O.T songs such us : Line Up (which made them won America MTV award as the 1st Asians), Get It Up and Wolf And Sheep. There's another of H.O.T song that I love so much, wrote and composed by Tony, the song tittle is : All Alone. Its mixed with classical instrument and the lyrics is so on point. Its about how the poor student without money treatment at the school. Personally its got me hard because I have experienced it during my childhood at school. Thanks. And sorry for long comment ^^

LOL! Now, SM did have the forgotten girl group The Grace. They're probably the second least successful group after M.I.L.K.

Appreciate you doing these reactions for 1st gen groups! For M.I.L.K., the song "Into the New World" was originally going to go to them for their second album before they disbanded. Would have been interesting to see how that would have turned out. As for other 1st gen groups, I know JYPE uploaded older MV's from artists that used to be under them a couple years ago(I think they were uploaded around 2019) from the 1st gen. Not remastered but they uploaded videos from Rain, Byul, G.O.D., Park Ji-Yoon. For YG, they do have MV's from their 1st gen artists on their official YG KZbin channel. They were uploaded in the late 00's. I hope you'll get to react to them down the road.
