I'm about to start making this project by myself, same lineup, Tacoma 1996 Extra Cab 4x4, probably will go without the ARB coils for now but will consider it in the future, thank you for your effort and hard work. All the best!

@@budgetprojectsbydavid5263 something I really enjoyed was the fact that where just two guys in a very relaxing mood with nothing but a car to fix and friendship (and a couple of beers)

What did you do about the emergency brake cable rubbing on new leaf?

It was close. We bent the bracket up, if I recall correctly.

He’s gone Uncle! You Boys got a future in the entertainment sector if you run out of things to fix. Very helpful video to me as I’ve got a 2000 Prerunner that needs a parts adjustment.

How's the ride? I just got the same springs for my '99 and I'm debating removing one of the leaves.

I have 2 taco that need new struts and shocks. A 2002 and a 2015. Just wondering how much did it settle after a few weeks?

A little hard to say because Mike immediately put a set of 2” wider tires, Toyo Open Country MT 33”X9.5”, but after a few weeks, here’s the measurements: DSF: 39 3/4” DSR: 40 1/4” PSF: 40 1/2” PSR: 40 5/8”

Hey did you guys do the leaf pack with or without the extra leaf? Have a single cab myself so I’m curious.

The first video in the series has the part numbers, which should help you. I don’t know off the top of my head.

What are your measurements now does it still sit higher on one side in the rear?
@budgetprojectsbydavid5263
@budgetprojectsbydavid5263 2 жыл бұрын
Well, it’s hard to say because Mike immediately went out and bought larger tires. I’m sure they probably settled a little. I believe that one side should still be a little taller to account for driver and fuel weight, but it’s designed to be.

Yes, a front end alignment was performed immediately after we installed the lift.

Great job, guys! This has been a big help as I’m about to tackle this, the same new parts all around as you for my 2004. I got my front struts done last weekend, may have a chance to start the rear this wknd. That front leaf shackle bolt…hope I can have as much success as you, without grinding off a chunk of the truck bracket (looks like a small gap on both sides)! The truck looks awesome with the lift! Thanks, again!

@@budgetprojectsbydavid5263 well, I got the leaf springs off of the first side (I started on the driver's side - waiting on my exhaust extension bracket to arrive on the passenger side), and I got that front bolt 3/4 of the way out (thought I had a win), then it seized up in the bushing. So I ended up having to use the angle grinder (first time using that bad boy). I can't get the new leaf pack to line up in the center now, no matter what I try - axle down, axle forward, etc. So when you switched to your part 3 video and went over to the other side to remove the leaf pack over there, did you wait until it was completely out until you went back to the passenger to work on it and get it centered ? I'm worried that the axle won't be supported by anything if I do that, but that seems to be the only way - to install both new packs with the axle completely free. Thanks!!

Yes, that was our problem, too. We couldn’t get the driver side to line up until we completely removed the passenger side.

You need some blocks or a jack under the Rear differential (ie. “Pumpkin”)

@@budgetprojectsbydavid5263 All done with the install here. A couple of interesting twists on mine. I installed the exhaust relo bracket like you guys did, but the exhaust kept scraping the leaf springs, so I ended up taking it to a muffler shop and having a new tailpipe welded on and re-routed above the springs. Also, I got pretty significant vibration betw/ 15-25 mph (very strong at 20 mph) after the install. Did some research, and it appears that the rear lift was enough of a change to the driveline angle to cause that. There are a few options, but for now, I installed a center carrier bearing drop kit (basically, unscrew the carrier bearing that connects the two drive shafts, add spacers, then bolt it back up). I still have some slight vibration, but that seems to have fixed the problem...for now. Aside from that, rides so much better than before. Thanks, again, for the great video footage! Can't believe you guys don't have more views. I'll start sharing on FB groups.
