Today I unbox some protective gear from Ace Link Armor. They are a California based company that specializes in Ballistic Body Armor. They sent out their Formoza Plate Carrier as well as sets of their Level III+ Special Threat Ballistic Plates and Level IV Stand Alone Ballistic Plates.
As I get more time with this gear I'll bring you a full review...

The reason you'll find that it's lighter is likely because the ceramic strike face does not extend to the edge of the plate. So while the UHMWPE backer is a full 10x12, the ceramic is more like 8x10. You can typically see or feel this where the cover slightly indents about 1" in from the edge. Seeing how the NIJ's min shot distance is 2" from the edge, a lot of the manufacturers play the gray area on reduced strike face coverage, and then in a lack of transparency do not list this on product pages, but instead "sell it" as their plate being lighter than competitors :D

Just got this plate carrier and it’s a nice minimalist carrier which is made for maritime use meaning the material doesn’t hold or soak water. I inserted swimmer’s cut BAO level IV ceramic plates in it. I like the elastic cumberbun

We have some PE plates here at work.. took some out to the range to blast one apart before we decided to switch to them and surprisingly they worked as advertised. I had my doubts given how light they were.

First Spear Strandhogg P.C. with ShotStop Duritium GT2 plates is what I wear, total weight with 6 AR mags and IFAK is about 12 pounds.

Can you do a video on Carrabine Quartermaster Armor? I recently tested a 3A panel from them. 9 115gr 9mm, 3 158gr 38spl, 1 12g target load, and finally 1 156gr 6.5 carcano round were fired at it. None of them penetrated the 3A armor. The video is on their facebook if you don't believe me. They also make a backpack that breaks down into two plate carriers, and they even have laser cuts and swift clips.

I agree lighter is better, however if you're accustomed to heavy and go lighter.... makes a world of difference

Ya. I won't trust an armor company where there only nij plate on the website currently is not on the CPL list and they have failed 2 3A nij tests. I'll stick with proven companies.

Is this the armor that ITAR, EAR, and the NIJ just deemed inactive for their certifications? They deemed armor made from several countries including China and Russia inactive on the official CPL.
