Norm Michael out of Syracuse. This was a pick that literally did nothing in the NFL because nobody told him he had made it to the NFL. The Philadalphia Eagles picked him with their 20th round pick in the 1944 draft at fullback, but could not locate him because he was overseas fighting in World War II at the time. In fact, it wasn't until 55 years later that Norm found out the Eagles had even drafted him.

He also played college ball in the middle of the depression. If he had gotten a terrible injury (ie a torn achilles or ACL) in his first year of pro ball, he could’ve been financially screwed for the rest of his life.

Malik McDowell should definitely get an honorable mention. Though not technically a first rounder, he was drafted 35th overall by the Seahawks in 2017 so very close to being one. He was also the team's first pick that year, a pick that was originally in the first round before they traded back twice. During camp that year he was involved in an ATV accident and missed the entire season due to his injuries. During that season, he was arrested twice, once for a DUI and once for disorderly conduct. He never played a single snap for the Seahawks, and was released in 2019 after several altercations and legal issues with the team. Shortly after he served 11 months in prison. He did eventually make it back to the league for a short stint with the Browns, but then last year he was arrested for indecent exposure and resisting arrest after he was found walking around naked on the property of a children's learning center in Florida.

How about AJ Jenkins with the 49ers? 30th overall pick and despite having no injuries in his rookie year, was targeted once for a short yard pass which he promptly dropped. Like, even for a Trent Baalke pick, this one was impressively bad.

Surprised that N'Keal Harry didn't make the list. Harry was the Patriots #1 pick in 2019 and the second receiver taken in that draft, and has done nothing to show he was anywhere near worthy of that pick. Think about it. The Patriots took him over Deebo Samuel, AJ Brown, Terry McLaurin, DK Metcalfe, etc.

As someone who struggles with depression and thoughts of suicide, that last one was tough. All I can think about is why he wanted to take his own life. Everson Griffin was cut by the Minnesota Vikings after he went depressed one day. Sometimes I wake up crying, I know I'm loved and well respected, but like I don't feel it. Don't worry about me, I'll be okay.

One "old-time" name that did nothing was Cal Rossi. He was a DB and RB from UCLA, and actually was drafted in the first round *twice.* How did this happen? George Preston Marshall tore up the draft manuals and went by his own gut, and drafted Rossi ninth overall in 1946. But the rule at the time was you couldn't leave early, and had to graduate. Rossi was only a junior in '46 and still had one year of eligibility left. Marshall chose him *again* in 1947, at fourth overall, but the scouts tried to tell him something he didn't want to hear - Rossi wasn't interested in the NFL. So, Rossi was a top ten pick twice, and never played a down in the NFL.

I hope nowadays teams can do more research into each pick. Of course, there are always going to be issues that don't show up on a Wonderlic test, pro day work outs and game film.
